Just wondering what peoples opinion is on extension offers for our pending free agents DLO, Reid and Nowell assuming we resign them. This is my take:
DLO - 80 mil / 4 years (which includes incentives for 3pt% and assist/turnover ratio)
Reid - 30 mil / 3 years (fully guaranteed)
Nowell - 15 mil / 3 years (team option 3rd year)
Contract Extensions - what gets it done?
Re: Contract Extensions - what gets it done?
I have no idea what it'd take, by I certainly hope they say goodbye to Nowell.

I'm not giving D'Lo 4 years. I'm just not.
Reid at 3 for 30 is a good deal.
Nowell isn't worth that right now. We'd have to compare him to the rest of the free agent class.

I have no clue anymore on DLO. The guy has shot his way back into consideration for an extension with the Wolves IMO, but I worry like heck how he'd look in year 1 of a cushy extension.
I think Reid may be gone as I think some other team might be willing to pay more than us.
And I think Nowell is definitely gone. Makes me sad as really had high hopes for him and followed him closely in the G-League. He's been a total disaster this season and if we re-sign DLO, we simply can't have two abject liabilities defensively in the regular back court rotation.

Re: Contract Extensions - what gets it done?
I still think it'll take Jalen Brunson type money -- four-years, $104M ($26M AAV) -- to re-sign D'Angelo Russell, and I do think he's worth that. If Minnesota signs him to that or less, then I think it's a win.
Naz Reid is in a tricky position. If there's a team willing to pay him to be their starting center, then his earning potential could be higher than the mid-level. I could see up to four-years, $52M ($13M AAV) in that case. However, what's more likely is he'll command backup center money, which is around the mid-level. I'll guess a four-year, $35M deal ($8.75M AAV) -- similar to what Daniel Theis signed for with Houston.
I'm not intending for this to be a hot take, though perhaps it might be, but I think Jaylen Nowell and his representation know that this season hasn't gone the way they wanted it to, and signing a multi-year deal based on his current production probably isn't their best course of action if they want a big payday. I assume they believe he's closer to the player he was last year, or better. I think Nowell signs a one-year deal at the minimum with a team that can allow him to have a sizable role. He needs to have a bounce back campaign and retest free agency. Malik Monk just did this with the Lakers in recent seasons and wound up getting mid-level money with Sacramento.

Re: Contract Extensions - what gets it done?
I'm going to offer my opinion and then wait for the "boos". If I'm running the team, I don't sign any of those guys. Not because I think they are trash. But simply because I feel like they will be overpaid on their next deals. And by that - I don't mean overpaid compared to the free agent market signings. I mean just overpaid compared to production. Remember when Gorgui Dieng was resigned for like $16M/year? He was one of my favorite players and I was happy for him. But the detractors all said he was paid too much. And in the end, the detractors were right. Dieng was the same player with the new contract. But the production to dollars was now off and fans turned on him a little. DLO has a similar issue...if he was making less, I think more fans would be ok with him. So, I'd say, rather than overpay to keep guys outside of your core, just backfill with younger guys with upside and/or vet minimum guys.
Regarding Nowell, I had high hopes for him after last season. But he had his opportunity this year and tripped on his dick. I'm not rewarding that guy. I'd rather give his minutes to Moore Jr. and/or a vet on a minimum (think something like Austin Rivers this year).
Regarding Naz, I'm very happy for him. He's exceeded my expectations. But his role is going to be minor with the guys ahead of him (Gobert, Towns and as Monster points out probably SlowMo). There is no need to overpay for such a minor role. Backfill with giving those few minutes to Minott/Garza/Knight - all cheap with some potential upside. If health of Towns/Gobert is a concern, bring in a vet min center to compete.
DLO is the most difficult. Reading comments on here, the pendulum swings wildly. He was considered pure trash by many at the start of the year. Now people are starting to think about four year, $100M contracts. Maybe he gets that on the open market. But buyer beware! DLO is what he's always been - a streaky guy. And he's streaking at the right time....just like he did when his last contract ended. And what makes a lot of people (including me) not like DLO is how much he's getting paid. When you are a max guy, my expectation is you are carrying the team. Not for a few weeks or random month, but for the season and especially in the playoffs. Can he do that? In theory. But has he done that? He has not. To me, the question with DLO is not whether to sign him (don't!), but rather how to replace him. I don't have that answer because I don't follow other teams/NBA in general that much. But I'd have a hard time believing he's the only guy that can fill that role for us.
I subscribe to the old Patriots way of running a team. Pay whatever you need to retain your stars. Draft/develop and sign cheap vets to backfill the rest of the roster. DLO, Naz and Nowell have all contributed to this franchise. But I feel we can fill their production with less money than it would take to resign them. I'm hoping we can flip at least one of those guys for something at the deadline. That's my opinion - you can all have yours.

I want all three players gone. None of them rebound and defend at a high enough level to what they are going to get paid. I'll pass.

Re: Contract Extensions - what gets it done?
Extending DLO would be paying for a regular season player. He is a very mediocre asset once the postseason starts. Teams will get him isolated on defense and abuse him over and over. If you can't see that, you really don't understand the game. The Warriors did some of it last night and it worked for easy baskets. It only gets magnified in the playoffs when teams will game plan for it. I really thing TC gets it and so does Finch. A big DLO extension would still be a big disappointment. But as Wolves fans we are used to disappointment, so nothing will surprise me.

This is a good post. I think with Nowell if he and the Wolves see a legit role for him I could see both sides being willing to get something done that could end up working out well for both sides. Paying Nowell more than his possible market value (say around 5 million a year) could net the Wolves a guy that is a very good value if Nowell plays up to the talent that I think everyone here thinks he does possess. Meanwhile Nowell could get a decent chunk of money for a couple years and then be 25 in time to cash in on the next contract if he plays well.
Also I wonder if that 4th year of Russell's deal could be flexible. Maybe a player option for Russell and a partial guarantee if the Wolves decide to move on. I think you can have a deal like that but anyways I think something creative to happen to resign Russell if that's what both sides want to do and agree to something.
