Based on salary

Is Ben becoming an alltime bust? I know he has some hardware but since he signed he
signed his contract how bad has he been?

Yes. I cant think of another fall that far in a players prime. Maybe there are examples from the 70s and 80s with hard drugs.

He's near establishing himself as a benchmark for guys who just inexplicably fell off a cliff.

I'm at a loss to find another young All NBA talent who dropped so quickly and significantly. Even when considering guys with career-threatening injuries and/or drug issues.

Even a guy like Bill Walton was a useful player on the court later in his career despite all the foot problems.

It's not yips. Ankiel went back to the minors and then became a decent hitter.

With Ben's it's a case of a bad back combined with lack of interest in playing.

Isaiah Thomas (Celtics version) wanted a big bag but never got it and is now is out of league. Also multi-time all-stars like Andre Drummond and DeMarcus Cousins are a back up and out of league, respectively. John Wall certainly got a bag but injuries have left him a shell.

I get why his name was brought up but Ankiel made less than 15 million his entire career and most of it was as an OF. If I remember right part of his value was defensively playing a lot in CF. I'd say he is more a unique redemption story than a guy that completely failed mentally.

The last contract for the man that ate Sean Kemp was pretty bad...and that was a precipitous decline

Minnesota example

Justin Morneau was on his way to winning his second MVP was batting .345 with 18 bombs by mid July. He slid into second base and got a concussion.

Morneau never hit above 18 home runs again in a season and besides his 2014 year where he played in Colorado was .260 hitter for the rest of Career

I argue that one injury cost Morneau a most likely bid to HoF. As he would've had two MVPs by the age of 29. It's very sad because you can tell on broadcast how humble he's about how good he was and he really didn't deserve what happened to him.

I think because of what happened last year with the trade request I think some people aren't sure what to make of Simmons injuries. Maybe they are a more significant factor in why he is playing poorly than typically considered? Idk

Meanwhile Simmons has played in 5 games this month starting 1 game and he took a total of 16 shots and scored 18 points. Just as a fun comparison in fewer minutes Nathan Knight took 12 FREE THROW attempts. Lol in fact Knight has almost as many FT attempts as Simmons this year and he has played like 1/4 as many minutes.
