Big game tonight against the Grizzlies

Post by FNG »

Yes, they're really good, and we're missing three key players. But they will be missing Steven Adams and the Strib reports the Griz's ORtg drops more than 10 points when he is on the bench, and maybe we even catch a break if Desmond Bane misses tonight with a sore knee. Memphis is favored by 3, but they have lost 4 road games in a row and are playing their 4th road game in 6 nights and 5th in 8 nights, and they are only 11-14 on the road (21-3 at home!)...we have a chance to steal this one.

We have had rebounding issues this season and Memphis is very good on the boards, but with Adams out the past two games they have been outrebounded by 15 boards a game. We need to at least hold our own on the boards to have a chance in this one.

Who guards Morant? He's an elite scorer, but I'm not too worried about his 31% 3-point shooting...and maybe Rudy limits his effectiveness at the rim.

Go Wolves!

You ALWAYS want to play a team in the last game of their long road trip.

Memphis lost the previous 4 games on the trip... 3 of them by a combined 5 points.

As we've learned about Memphis over the years, it doesn't really matter if Adams is out, or Bane, or even Morant. The team is deep. Maybe there's discord with the Grizzlies that is revealing something deeper right now...

... or it's just a youngish team that's lost a couple of super close games in the doldrums of the season. It should be noted that even with the 4 straight losses... Memphis is up 3.5 games on the #3 seed (Kings) and they have a very favorable schedule moving forward for the next couple of weeks.

- Are they content just to get home and regroup?
- Are the Wolves content that they're at .500 and only x.x out of #x seed?

Yeah, Memphis is deep. But Adams' 11.5 rebounds per game are almost double his closest competitor. And they have been destroyed on the boards since he went down.

My gut tells me they aren't happy to be in 20 below windchill after being out of town (arguably in much warmer climates) for over a week. They miss their girlfriends and their own apartments, and just want to get home. I think they might mail this one in tonight.

My guess is that not many players mail things in anymore. I think they send one of those suggested text replies for this game. :)

Yeah, Memphis might be the closest thing to what the Spurs did during their long run of excellence, which is patching together great teams with a combination of two or three high-end talents and a seemingly endless group of role players that punch above their weight no matter what year it is or what the name is on the back of their jersey.

LOL. Ok, how about this: let's hope the Grizzlies email this one in tonight. I want to be over .500 with Sac-Town coming to town for 2 big games!

Win tonight against Memphis, at least split the two games against Sacramento, and keep it rolling into February.

Luckily, I think this Minnesota team amps up for this type of opponent so I expect them to bring their best.

Anyone at tonight's game? Should be a playoff-like atmosphere in there.

I wish Jaden would score the ball when he's right at the basket instead of looking to pass.
