There hasn't been many chatter about Leandro in a long time - on this board or in the media. Connelly or Finch has talked a lot lately about our recent draft picks and our existing young players, including somewhat surprisingly, Jaylen Nowell. But not a peep about Bolmaro.
So I thought it was time to bring Leandro back into the conversation. Recall that Rosas picked him ahead of McDaniels two years ago. And Rosas was no slouch when it came to spotting young talent. It's also worth noting that Bolmaro hasn't even turned 22 years old yet.
He put up some decent, but not overly impressive G-League numbers last year, averaging 13.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 6 assists and 1.4 steals in 32 minutes per game. Let's compare that to this year's #8 pick, Dyson Daniels. Dyson averaged 11.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.9 steals in 31 minutes per game. I don't want to infer too much from that comparison, but it's worth noting. We all noticed that Bolmaro struggled with his shot last season in his limited minutes in the NBA and he shot only 30% from behind the arc in the G-League. But watching him play you can see he has an NBA-caliber game in every other respect. And again, he's not even 22 years old yet.
My bottom line on Bolmaro is that we should sleep on him. And I hope we don't trade him. He's still a really talented, exciting and very young player with the length of a wing and the skills of a high-level playmaker. He's smart, high energy and tough.
