2022 Draft GDT
2022 Draft GDT
Starting a fresh thread for real-time updates and chatter regarding draft-related rumors and tonight's draft.
Re: 2022 Draft GDT
Thanks, Q! I am crawling out from under my rock for draft day -- there is always an "aroma" surrounding this day (Marbury reference! :).
I know I'll love whoever we draft, but I also know those draftees have little chance of impacting our team next year. The prospects of a trade is what really gets my juices flowing!
And of course, whatever needs we don't address today, we have free agency to look forward to. I, like many here, am anxious to see what kind of big we acquire to put alongside KAT. I know there are many here who like the idea of Hartenstein in free agency, but beating out the Clippers might be tough. A temporary backup plan could be Whiteside or McGee, among other low cost guys.
Anyway, here is an observation: Connelly has already traded Beasley and Vando in the past...

Tim! Good to hear from you.
Yeah, I am not ruling out TC trading our pick as part of some larger deal. Stay tuned!

Draft Night
Every year it comes.
From the moment you wake up that day,
you can tell something's different. ?Each sound, each tick of the clock
a reminder that we're one second closer.
Anticipation builds, and hope hangs in the air
with a mix of dread, especially when the object of your hope,
your team,
has given you so little to feel hopeful for,
as any Wolves fan will tell you.
At least until recently.
And who knows,
maybe tonight could be the night,
our night!
The night we all think back on, one day,
with more fondness than regret.
And on the floor before the stage,
the players sit, nervous and hopeful,
their faces glowing blue from their phones
as parents adjust collars or shake their heads
in disbelief at their son's clothes
mixed with pride and a touch of sadness.
What can you do with kids these days?
And old men--who couldn't play a lick themselves--sprinkle
hyperbolic praise amid withering critique,
phenomenal upside,
needs to work on his handle,
questions about his motor,
and mispronounce names at an increasing rate
while fans like us sit rapt on our laptops.
For most players, this will be the biggest night of their lives,
a memory towards which their regret will grow
as they languish on benches and later move
from country to country with increasingly foreign-sounding languages.
A few others will find themselves clinging to the dream
that this night promised, playing next to greatness,
but never standing in it.
And a handful will discover, perhaps to their surprise,
that their talent actually lived up to the confidence
they projected. For a time.
But for now, they sit awkwardly, hoping to hear their name next,
their discomfort growing as each name is called.
But we don't need to wait for the jingle, for Silver
to announce our fate.
The Woj bomb has already landed.
And online, we spill a collective disbelief, joy, rage, and disdain
onto the screen, as if we could see the future.
Though secretly, we know we can't.
Our confidence, like that of the players,
is leavened with more hope and uncertainty
than we dare to admit.
And then, after the night descends into the reckless giddiness
of a second round that feels inconsequential, filled with
ever more unpronounceable names and impossible backstories,
we all go to bed,
eyes tired, our pulses racing
with the promise of the future,
because, as has been said,
anything is possible.

Drew, is that a poem and did you write that? Awesome!
Re: 2022 Draft GDT
The Lakers have acquired the 35th pick from the Magic in exchange for a future second-round pick and cash.
Yikes, I would have liked to get my hands on pick 35 with 40 and 48 or 50 or even 40 and some of Glen's cash. Someone this board likes will be at 35 (but maybe not 40), I can pretty much guarantee it.

Yes and yes. I figured you'd like the last line in particular.
I fucking love draft night.

You are absolutely right. There are about 5 guys that should be there at #35 who could be the 5th or 6th wing or post on a championship contender.
This is clearly the worst trade so far. Lebron would rather have a vet taking up that roster spot, and the Magic did this because they are in love with their own FA's and are planning on bringing them back, which is a very bad idea.

Lip was just pointing out a player named David Roddy who I hadn't heard of before -- I'm not the draft experts you fellas are! But now he seems like someone I'd be interested in -- looks like the second coming of PJ Tucker who by coincidence was selected at #35.
