Rebuilding time...who goes?

Post by DNatagal »

So now that we are OFFICIALLY in rebuild mode, does it make any sense to trade any/all/some of the players that may have some value (or not) around the league?

Does trading KMart for picks and roster spot help the growth of our Pups?
Does moving Pek help us?
Can the Wolves get anything for Young?

The trade deadline is approaching and the yearly injury march for the teams is starting to catch up.

So pick one, pick a few, pick all, but give a reason and possible outcome for the trade(s).

Have fun!

I voted for Martin, Bud and Young. I see Martin getting us a 1st rounder in 2016 and maybe a conditional 2nd rounder in 2015, plus if Bud or Young is attached, see at least one young Center/Forward type coming back. I can see Young going out for a team that needs 2nd team scoring punch, possibly Atlanta or Chicago? The Wolves SHOULD move at least 2 bodies to help the Pups..>IMHO<

Pek, Bud and Thad are virtually untradeable at this point. And Flip is unlikely to move any of the young guys who have potential.

Mo and K-Mart are the two vets who actually have value. Mo is easy to move because his deal expires this year. K-Mart is tougher because of the length of his deal, but a team with a need for outside shooting at the wing and a roster that makes sense to keep K-Mart for multiple years would certainly have some interest.

Our roster is so young that picks aren't much good. What this team needs is a starting PF this year or next. Anyone selected in next year's draft will NOT be ready to start.

I don't wanna turn this into a hypothetical trade thread (because I have some in mind), but I could see Flip looking to move Budinger (nobody wants), Bennett (nobody wants), Martin and Young (if the deal was right).

I actually tagged the same three guys as you did. But, I don't see any of those guys bringing back much unfortunately. Martin probably would have the most value if he comes back soon and looks good. But I'd be shocked if any team would give up a 1st round pick to get him. IMO, if any trades actually happen, it will probably be player(s) for player(s). My gut is telling me a move is coming. Coaches often go get guys they drafted or liked while coaching other teams (think Adelman bringing in Martin and Bud). So, who has been one of Flip's boys from the past that he might try to get?

Is there any team that needs an outside shooter like KMart? I would have to think there are more than a few. I could see Chicago wanting to add another shooter for the stretch run. That team would be stacked, great interior defense with another shooter!

Interesting. He fits the criteria. Don't know much about that guy. Looks like he's currently a FA playing in China?

Tim, don't forget about Nemanja Bjelica, who apparently is ready to come to the NBA next season, and Bojan Dubljevic, our 2nd rounder from 2013 whose status I'm uncertain about. Both of these guys would likely play at PF in the NBA and potentially have a much faster learning curve than a college pick given their extensive experience of high-level European ball. The problem is I'm not sure either one really helps us much with defense, which is by far our biggest problem right now as a team.

Please get John Henson from the Bucks. The dude has been rotting away there for years. He always puts up decent stats when given starters minutes and is the type of shot blocker next to Pek and Dieng who could help turn this defense around at the rim.

As far as trades go I would say trade Pek, Bud and Thad if an acceptable deal is available. That's 26 million for 3 guys not getting us to the playoffs. I think Martin's deal is a perfect stop gap to getting Lavine NBA ready. With Ricky and Wiggins on the floor, we'll finally have the two defenders needed next to Martin where his lack of D won't really matter.
