[Note: I think Steve Kerr got to him.]

I like it. Although, I never thought Kenny Atkinson should have been fired.

I don't really get why hiring someone with no coaching experience is the move in the NBA. Being a smart basketball player doesn't mean you know how to teach people to play with those same smarts and NBA coaching involves serious ego management which is why the experience is so important. I'm curious to see how it turns out. It seems like a big risk/reward for a franchise that has higher expectations than their player personnel can deliver.

Anybody see Stephen A. Smith's bullshit take on this?
Re: Steve Nash the next Nets coach
I think the Nets should have kept Atkinson. I'd love it if the Wolves would hire Atkinson to replace Ryan Saunders, but I understand unfortunately that won't happen. As for hiring Steve Nash, I'm intrigued. I suspect hie has a great basketball mind and obviously has deep NBA experience as a perennial all-star PG in the NBA for many years. I'll take Steve's experience as a long-term cerebral all-star NBA PG over Ryan Saunders experience as a lower level assistant coach in the NBA. I think Nash is a much better communicator than Sanders and has more gravitas. I understand that some might consider Ryan Saunders a pretty low bar for assessing the decision to hire Nash. But as a Wolves fan, it's a natural comparison. And as I hear people criticizing the Nets' decision, I can't help but wish the Wolves had made that same to hire Nash decision instead of the decision they made.

Re: Steve Nash the next Nets coach
I like Steve Nash a lot, which is kind of why this hire worries me. There's a decent chance he flops compared to expectations and gets fired, which would tarnish his reputation. I know Kerr came in and was successful with no coaching experience, but he walked into an ideal situation. Brooklyn has some great talent, but Kyrie is a total wild card and we've never really seen that team play as it will look next year.
I think there is an element to Nash's low-key personality that could serve like the oil that calms the waters if there are any problems there, but he's seemed even more zen-like than ever in the interviews I've heard with him in the last couple years. Like he's half asleep. I do frankly wonder whether he'll still be able muster the energy needed for this on a daily basis.
I'm kind of surprised he didn't put in a few years as an assistant first. I think that would have been a safer route for him to learn the job a bit more before taking the big seat. He could easily have been a Rockets assistant these last few years. I mean, he was definitely looked at as a leader on that Phoenix team, but I think it's still a different thing altogether to be the coach.

Steve Nash is going to thrive as a head coach. That hire doesn't happen unless Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are convinced that he's capable of doing the job. The support of the two superstars on the team should set the tone for the rest of the roster to follow suit, and most of those guys grew up idolizing him anyways.
Nash also spent some time around the 2015 Golden State Warriors as a special consultant. I have no doubts that he'll step in and do a great job for the Brooklyn Nets.

Terrible, pandering take on many levels.
But it got Smith his attention.
Mission accomplished.

I have on purposely not listened to his take for this very reason.
