Morey steps down as the Rockets GM. Interesting to see what they do roster wise

What's interesting is that the King's hired McNair who worked for the Rockets. So apparently he wouldn't have been considered for this job? So in the last year or so the Rockets have had 2 executives hired by other teams to lead their basketball operation and Morey steps down. Who is left? It's certainly an interesting development and surprising but in some ways not that surprising.

Do you think McNair and Rosas are kicking themselves?

They left a historically decent franchise for two of the worst... ever.

But maybe the new ownership in Houston is a pain in the ass.

Based on the Rockets situation with the talent on their roster, I don't think they will have too much trouble hiring talent into the new role. JVG seems to be down the road already. Maybe that was a direction that Morey didn't want to go.

With Morey stepping down is James Harden a possibility for the wolves with trading their #1 pick

There has been skepticism about whether or not the new owner has been willing to pay up to have a contending type team. I'm not sure how they finished out financially last year but the previous year it seemed like they made some cost cutting moves.

I'd say Rosas took a job at the time because...he decided it was a good opportunity in one way or another. You never know what is going to happen. A season later and Morey steps down. McNair...you gotta wonder if he would have been the guy anyway. If so you would have thought Morey would have said something to him about it etc. Maybe Morey didn't really have this thought till recently. Who knows. Like I said...it's all interesting.

We don't need him. He doesn't fit our age window and we already have Malik Beasley. 8)

Morey did sign a five year extension... just last year.

But that was before China. And then this season...

I'm not a big Morey guy. He took over a winner, becaming GM of the Rockets the year after they team won 52 games. They won 55 and 53 games the next two seasons before falling off to a team that won 42, 43 and 34 games in each of the next three seasons before climbing back with 45, 54 and 56 wins the next three seasons only to fall back to a 41 win team the following season. The teams peaked three seasons ago with 65 wins. But through all that, the Rockets have never won an NBA championship or made the NBA finals during Morey's 13-year tenure as head of a warm-weather fairly large market team with a championship history.

Don't get me wrong, Morey's had a nice run and, of course, the Rockets have been far better than the Wolves and many other teams during his tenure. But he doesn't rank in my pantheon of elite NBA GMs over the years. And he certainly hasn't measured up to the size of his ego.
