Timberwolves Players - Relative Size and Growth Spurts

Post by Lipoli390 »

I was paying particular attention at last night's Pelicans game to the relative length of Timberwolves players. Here are some observations:

1. Anthony Edwards. I had a great look at Ant standing right next to DLO and talking. After seeing the two together, I'm really glad Edwards had a major growth spurt after we drafted him. Watching closely, I'd say that Ant is maybe a half-inch taller than DLO. I'm certain he's NOT 6'6. But he is really wide and strong. And he looks like his arm's are longer than DLO's.

2. McDaniels. It looks like his reported growth spurt has made him the tallest player on the team. I saw him in close proximity to Vando, Naz and KAT. He's clearly taller than Vando and Naz. He also looks at least as tall as KAT if not slightly taller. I don't know McDaniel's standing reach, but his arms look longer than anyone else on the Wolves roster. Having just turned 21, he could even grow a little more. At a minimum, he'll fill out his frame and get stronger.

3. Naz Reid. I noticed last night that Naz is the shortest of our bigs, including KAT, McDaniels and even Vanderbilt. Naz has a wide body, but he's not particularly tall and he seems to have pretty short arms. You can see that it hurts him defensively against opposing bigs. JV had his way against Naz inside last night.

That's amazing regarding Jaden. He moves remarkably well laterally for someone with that length. I hope his offensive game comes along because he is already a weapon on D.

Ant is 6'6" in the same way that DLO is 6'5". DLO was 6'3.25" without shoes in the NBA combine and generously listed as 6'5" with shoes. Ant is probably around 6'4" without shoes and between 6'5" and 6'6" with shoes. I don't think that makes him particularly long for a wing. What is different about him is the fact he packs 220+ lbs. and elite athleticism onto that frame.

Naz has the height of a PF but the defensive mobility of a Center, so he has to mostly play Center, which puts him at a defensive disadvantage.

Heh, Lip loves it though! We have a tradition dating back many years of obsessing over things like height, standing reach, hand size, etc., especially for our lottery picks over the years!
