Knicks Hiring Thibodeau

Post by Lipoli390 »

Well, the earlier rumors were true. Turns out the Knicks are about to sign Thibodeau to a 5-year deal as their next head coach. It will be interesting to see how that goes. The Eastern Conference will be a better fit for Thibodeau. And although the Knicks are a young team, perhaps their young guys are better suited mentally to respons well to Thibodeau's style than the Wolves cadre of young players several years ago. Thibodeau did have success with a young Bulls team led by Derrick Rose, Noah, Taj and Butler. Thibodeau has always had trouble getting along with front office colleagues and owners. By all accounts from people I know in the Wolves organization, Thibodeau was a total jerk.

But this might work out for the Knicks. He'll already have Taj Gibson on his roster. He's not going to be the Knicks' POBO, but maybe he can convince his front office to trade for Jimmy Butler and Derrick Rose. :). Come on Thibs, let's get the band back together one last time.

Well it would seem the Knicks are doing what they always do, going for the quick fix. From that standpoint this is a perfect fit. Knick fans better hope Thibs can draw in some big time free agents. Otherwise this is going to be another rocky era for that franchise.

The Knicks and Wolves are two of the worst franchises in the NBA over the past decade and a half, at least the Wolves have the excuse of not being in a huge market and destination city. The Wolves are pathetic, the Knicks are hilarious, they have all the advantages and still can't get their shit together.

I'd bet that the Knicks will make the playoffs in the next couple seasons and Mitchell Robinson will toss his name into the DPOY conversation in the next several years under Thibodeau's coaching. Good hire from a struggling franchise.

This is flat out hilarious! What are they thinking? Get the worst possible coach and tank maybe? I guess that is one strategy. :-d

Lip I told you so...lol

Will Leon Rose be the right guy to work with Thibs? He has been his agent for a long time so maybe. I'm skeptical. The problem with the Knicks is in terms of guys with actual high level talent...I'm not sure what they actually have. There is some guys there but nobody I feel confident is THE guy. I haven't Really seen RJ Barrett play but thinking back to what I remember hearing about his game at the time of the draft he might actually be a good fit in terms of skill for Thibs.

I have zero investment in the Knicks so honesty I don't Really care whatsoever if they succeed or flounder. I can sit back and enjoy the show whatever happens. To some extent of Thibs doesn't succeed this time what will be his excuse? I'd bet he will have a pretty significant influence on the roster. This is almost like some sort of neat experiment (Sort of like when Rubio was traded to Utah) where we find out once and for all what Thibs is or isn't...of course with this pandemic the returns might not be anywhere close to complete for Like 3 Years.

Part of me still thinks Thibs has something legit to offer a franchise as a coach. If he does I'd like to see it happen. Weirdly I don't think I'm cheering for him to fail but the Knicks haven't exactly been at the top of the heap in terms of well run organizations and we all know their owner James Dolan is absolutely terrible. Let's just say Thibs has his work cut out for him...and he will outwork anyone but...

Wow, the Knicks may rival the Wolves in head scratching decisions. At least the Knicks weren't stupid enough to make Thibs the GM too.

David West is not happy with the Thibs hire and I don't blame him: https://sports.yahoo.com/david-west-upset-knicks-reportedly-014245753.html

Actually I wonder if this will save the Wolves some money on the last year of Thibs contract with them. It's just Glen's money but it wouldn't hurt if they had to pay Thibs even a million less or something.

In 204 games before Thibs: 64-140 (.314) - 0 playoff appearances
Games Since Thibs: 36-70 (.340) 0 playoff appearances
Games With Thibs: 97-107 (.475) 1 playoff appearance
5 Seasons since Thibs left the Bulls: 1 playoff appearance (8 seed)
2 seasons since Thibs left the Wolves: 0 playoff appearances
1 total playoff appearances in 7 years since Thibs got fired from his organizations.

Does Thibs lead the Knicks back to the promise land, realistically no but not impossible. Does Thibs make the Knicks respectable again I have to say yes! If Thibs can make Knicks respectable can Knicks get big time free agents. Maybe?

Thibs has some big time holes in his coaching style but there is no denying his teams are better when he is coaching and they get worse when he leaves. Solid hire for the Knicks. Thibs is going for the bad owner trifecta though arguable will coach under the 3 worst owners in basketball
