Man, this is gonna be a great year for the Timberwolves. Coming off a 46 - 36 campaign. A healthy sweet shooting Towns, a mercurial generational wing in Edwards, THE pre-eminent defensive presence in the modern game... and a steady, smart coach at the helm. What could go wrong?
- Gobert and Towns don't like each other. Remember, Gobert beating Towns out for All NBA cost Towns $32M. And the snide comments about Gobert earning it as a 14 ppg scorer or Towns earning it as a soft stats softer big man on D has not gone unnoticed.
These guys will STILL be battling for 3rd team All NBA. Despite all their proclamations, you don't think that matters? They're such polarizing players both champions of a very particular set of skills. Both with many fans and detractors.
What if Gobert beats out Towns for 3rd team AND gets the lions share of the credit for the Wolves big season? What if Towns goes for 25/9/5 with 62% TS and he still gets ripped as often as he's praised because he has to hear how the team only won because of Gobert.
It won't be pretty.
Or what if the team doesn't gel and the wins don't come? Will Towns blame Gobert's offense? Will Gobert blame Towns' defense.
And... let's not forget that Gobert was the cat who nudged Towns in the air and broke that wrist a couple years back. If I remember, Towns remembers.
- What if Anthony Edwards does NOT make the leap? We're all expecting it to happen. But that doesn't mean it WILL happen. I dunno. That jumper still looks kinda funny to me.
- What if Jaylen Nowell is just a Jaylen Nowell, 2nd rd. pick? Has he made a shot this preseason? Should we be worried? It's not like he was trusted much last season. He was out of the rotation for a spell. Now, we expect him to be a 6th man assassin? Even Austin Rivers is nodding his head...
- Speaking of Rivers... he ALWAYS plays 20+ mpg. Good teams. Bad teams. Doesn't matter. Something will happen that will force Austin Fucking Rivers onto the court for 20+ mpg and we'll try to talk ourselves into "well he's not THAT bad after one 28 point game... after four straight sub 35% games.
- What side will Naz Reid choose in the inevitable Gobert vs. Towns 1st Avenue brawl? And will Nathan Knight be obligated to take the other side?
- Jordan McLaughlin played fewer minutes last season than his first two seasons... and the team won many more games. So, his reward is more minutes? Guaranteed backup PG minutes with about 20 starts when D. Russell inevitably sits? Ummmm... ok.
- Jaden McDaniels shot 36% on threes as a rookie. He shot 31.7% last season. Oh, and Patrick Beverley was a better rebounder.
- What if that coolbreeze guy gets especially unhinged and murders D. Russell in cold blood?
- What if he doesn't... and the team has to rely on D. Russell as its X factor all season?

Ha, and how about Vando....18 minutes, 12 rebounds, and 6 fouls! And a +10 in those minutes!
Re: Doomsday Thread.
Have you read the recent article on KAT and GoBear on the Athletic Abe? They are becoming the fastest of friends.

Fun post, Abe, and fun replies!
I'm not going to play though...I'm not too concerned about the doomsday scenario. Although I'm not convinced Ant will make the leap we all want, I'm also not convinced he needs to...this team has a lot of options.
OK, I will play. The only doomsday scenario I'll embrace is injuries. I'll admit my heart stopped when Gobert went down last night, until it was clear he had just knocked knees (great crowd reaction as he refused to leave the court!). A significant injury to Rudy, KAT or even Ant could torpedo the optimism for this season. But that's a doomsday scenario for almost every team in the Association. I'm still seeing 50+ wins.
