I admit I had an unhealthy obsession with my dislike for ole Ricky. But has DLO surpassed him on this board in terms of the emotion he stirs up from our fan base here?

Possibly. But I don't recall a starting point guard that folks on this board (or the board before it) didn't bitch about incessantly.
Of the 30 or so point guards we've had that got playing time in Minnesota since these boards opened I don't remember one that wasn't widely panned.

I actually think both fall into a similar category of legit starting NBA PGs (age and injuries have since made Ricky a backup) that can be very successful if asked to play the right type of role for their team. Both have helped lead good teams to the playoffs. Ricky was a huge part in the early days of Phoenix's transformation into a team on the rise. DLO was a big part of our success last year. On the other hand, both have significant flaws that prevent them from being able to carry a team in the way you'd hope for a lead ball handler.
Having said that, I think Ricky stirred up more debate simply because he played more seasons here.

I loved Terrel Brandon.
Cassel and Marbury were probably our two best PG's, but I love the guys that are looking to dish but can get theirs in small spaces. That's probably why I like DLO so much.

There are obvious similarities...both high draft picks. Both highly paid. So expectations were high (rightfully so).
But I think Rubio stirred more debate because his supporters (including me) often stated that his full value didn't show up in your standard stats (he was one of those "intangibles" guys). That's hard for the non-Rubio guys to chew (understandably).
With DLO, I think the standard and advance stats accurately show his value with one exception. The point has been made by his supporters that the team benefits from him as the added scoring threat. I can't argue against that. So even if he shoots poorly, teams have to account for him knowing he's fully capable of going off. We never really had that with Rubio obviously. Of course on the flip side, we know what happens when a shooter's shot isn't falling and they keep shooting. It is what it is - very different players, but both polarizing - yes.
