If you're using your #1 pick on a clear role player, it's a non starter.

Why is Deni a clear role player. Dudes a great athlete, good ball handler, and passer. He is a bad shooter but improved once he came back from the Covid break. One a title in Europe and his teammate Amare Stadumire said GMs will regret not taking him 1
I legit think Edwards, Wiseman, Deni, Haliburton, Vassel and i suppose ball all should be in discussion for the #1 pick
Re: Why Not Deni?
The video below shows some of the skill people that are excited about him have been talking about. I would be interested in seeing his Cumulative numbers in the games since the return to play after stoppage because of Covid.

I need to look into him more. Is his "upside" as high as other guys? Well he may have. A couple advantages compared to the day Ball or Edwards. First of al he is praised for his ability to defend. He puts forth the effort and sounds like he knows what to do. That's a pretty big positive when the other guys that's a minus and unknown. Deni also is likely bigger and likely to be able to play either SF or PF both are needs for the Wolves. I'm not suggesting picking for need but if it's a bit of a tossup there is an advantage there. Let's say his playmaking/scoring is somewhere in the neighborhood of the others guys. Would you be intrigued by a guy that could do that as a PF? I dismissed him as a role player a few months ago but I need to look more especially since I don't feel convinced about anyone else at the top. He has serious flaws too Though.

He's shot 33% from 3 since return from covid on about 4 attempts per game and shot 72% from the line since covid return. Both solid increasing numbers
He also played some SG on his team. Finally Amare Stadumire is his teammate and he said after they won the title instead of celebrating Deni stayed after and shot FTs because he said he missed to many in the game.
I would be happy if he was the #1 pick
Re: Why Not Deni?
I like Deni a lot. Although I'm encouraged by his shooting improvement after the Covid shutdown, I'm still concerned by his pre-shutdown 59% free throw percentage in Israeli League play. That's a big yellow flag for me. His Euro League field goal and three point percentages were 43.6% FG and 27.7% don't make me feel better about his free throw percentage.
But again, his post shutdown improvement is encouraging. And he has terrific shooting form. Overall, I like him a lot. He appears to have the skills and aptitude of a playmaking PG in a sturdy 6'9" frame. He's known for having a terrific motor and being highly competitive. And he's a good defender.

Re: Why Not Deni?
I know very little about Deni, but I just get a slight chill due to our track record with supposedly highly skilled Europeans coming into our franchise - Shved, Bjelica, and Saric being the most recent examples. It seems like the refs hate their guts for one thing. And then they can never quite put together the total package originally envisioned by the scouts.
Of course Bjelica went onto have career years in minutes played, WS/48, PER, and VORP in the two seasons after he left Minnesota. Typical.

Re: Why Not Deni?
I like Deni a lot, shouldn't Luka show that you don't have to be a great shooter to make a big difference? Maybe he takes the same approach when he's on the court?
Re: Why Not Deni?
My thing is why is Deni a lesser prospect the Edwards or Ball.
All 3 struggle with shooting (i am worried about Deni FT shooting and jump shot obviously), but Deni is an above average athlete, playmaker, big body, solid rebounder, great vision, reported great motor to get better and solid defender. Also played 3 different positions on a winner.
I'm am legit asking why he isn't in the conversation for the #1 pick. Why do those other 2 have more upside. I understand Wiseman having more upside (even though I worry about the value of bigs)

I think Deni is gaining some steam as he played well when their season started back over there. There might be some better highlights than a few months ago too. Honestly he probably fits better than Edwards in terms of the system this team wants to play. Edwards sounds like he is a Possible ball stopper.
