Small Ball

Post by Lipoli390 »

I'm watching a replay of one of the playoff bubble games between Utah and Houston. Gobert is dominating. The announcer just said, "Wow, Gobert is making small ball look really small." I thought that was pretty funny. I also thought it was telling and, perhaps, a preview of what's in store for the Wolves this season.

Rockets went to the Western Finals with small ball. I know they have stars but I'm just saying it's possible

They also have a top 5 NBA player and a system proven to not work when it mattered.

KAT is our needle mover. If he doesn't show up on both ends, we go nowhere.

I think the way you want your team built is Flex-A-Ball where you have players with different yet effective skill sets so that you can flex things in the direction needed. Play Portland and there bigs you can flex to a bigger lineup. Play Houston and you can flex to run with them. I think the Lakers were the most Flex-A-Ball team last year and that's why they won. Houston could have gave every team in the NBA fits but the Lakers stopped using there centers and took the ball out Hardens hands and enforced there strength even though playing smaller than usual. This is all easier said than done for all teams, especially for a team that has a hard time drawing in talent via FA. I hope Rosas can take my Flex-A-Ball approach and with some strong player development create a winning team in due time.

There is a couple interesting things to consider looking back at this season of Utah and Houston.

Interestingly all of Utah and Houston's games against each other did not include Capella playing. Houston won the regular season series 2-1 and the one loss was a 1 point game. Houston's first win was without Harden and Westbrook (Before Capella was traded but he didn't play) when Gordon went for 50. The final game Houston won Gobert put up a 12 point 6 rebound performance. These games were all played before the bubble. Utah starts a wing at PF.

Lip are you posting from an alternate dimension from me? Utah and Houston didn't play each other this year in the playoffs based on my current research. Can you see the future there? Who did the Wolves draft with their first round picks in your dimension? Is salty and sweet a thing there? Do people eat pineapple pizza? Do donuts have calories? Is KAT only 6'7"? Wait...maybe it's me in another dimension...get back to me ASAP!!! I'm starting to freak out.
