Dude really needs to add some muscle and develop his core strength, but the combination of skills at that size is definitely tantalizing.

The outlet pass after the block at 1:19 is perfect. The block itself had shades of Oden snuffing Brewer, but not quite as powerfully, obviously. It's the pass though. That PASS! Plenty of bigs wouldn't even think about trying it, and they're probably smart enough to know they're not skilled enough to do it. Most guys who would try the pass would try to pass it directly to the receiver. But in the center of the court, that would be a tough pass to catch coming from directly behind you--this is why guys running the outlet should swing wide if they can. Plus the lower arc would make it more likely to be intercepted. Of those guys who would recognize this and try for the bounce pass, I bet most would put too much mustard on it and not enough arc and it would just bounce long and out of bounds. KAT has done this more than a few times. It took a lot of skill for Holmgren to recognize that he could and should throw it past the receiver, but slow enough and at the right arc that it would be catchable off the bounce. Nice play.

And we don't even get to see his sweet shooting stroke in these highlights other than free throws. Dixie State wasn't much competition, so Chet didn't have to do much other than protect the rim, rebound and facilitate. But just wait until they unleash his 3-point shooting. He will get bigger as he ages and hits the weight room, but I see a lot of Kevin Durant with better shot blocking and passing. As the Wolves season dissolves into another disappointing one, it will be fun to dream about the chances of getting the first pick and bringing this unique talent home.

I've already started looking at 2022 draft prospects. This season could still turn around for the Wolves, but I have my doubts. There's something seriously wrong with this team, but I'm not quite sure exactly what it is. I'd still say the big problem is lack of size and rebounding.

Not time to throw in the towel on this season and tee up the 2022 draft thread despite the poor start, but the excellence of the 2022 draft will at least lift the spirits of this board a little if the season does continue to implode. I've got my attention focused on Holmgren, but there will be others to watch.

I'm not as enamored with Chet Holmgren as most of the basketball world seems to be. He looks to be as thin (or thinner) as Jaden McDaniels without the athleticism or lateral quicks to match. The kid is very skilled for a big, not so much as a wing at the next level, in my opinion. Unless he adds a significant amount of muscular bulk and strength, or somehow becomes a better athlete, I'm not sure how his ceiling can be perceived as high. This isn't a Kevin Durant type of player here. He's closer to being a bigger Kyle Anderson or smaller Kristaps Porzingis than he is Durant. I'm worried for him every time I watch him play, to be honest.

Got into foul trouble last night 2pts 5reb 2blks in 23 minutes. Going to be a pretty weak draft if he is a top 3 pick.

Yeah, bad game for Holmgren last night, rapper. But the top of the draft is loaded with skilled big men, and that's good for our Woofies if we are still size-deprived by the end of the summer. 4 of the top 6 picks in some of the mocks are talented guys 6'10" or bigger, and that doesn't even include 6'10" Drew Timme who went off for 37 last night for Gonzaga. I think the Wolves are going to come out of this draft with a very good big man.

I've pounded the table here for years wanting more size in the frontcourt, and I think the league is swinging back to playing big to some degree, but I want a high-level guard/wing out of this draft if the Wolves find themselves deep in the lottery. That means I'm looking at Jaden Hardy, Josh Minott, Jaden Ivey, and Caleb Houstan.

That type of losing season would clearly signal a rebuild and I'd want this one to have a different blueprint than the last handful that were mainly centered around bigs -- Al Jefferson, Kevin Love, Karl-Anthony Towns. Give me some high-level guard/wing play and fill in around them.

Not to mention, a rebuild indicates that Towns would be traded and the list of potential suitors for him have quality/intriguing bigs that would be dealt to Minnesota for him.
