Horrendous move, this is going to come back to bite them in the ass when we get out-rebounded literally every game

This is a flexibility play for the Wolves. Allows them to keep an open roster spot in case a 2 for 1 or 3 for 2 trade materializes, or they suffer a big injury. There is a possibility that they bring back RHJ later as well, sources said.

To add to this from a cap perspective -- Rondae Hollis-Jefferson would have a growing cap hit by the game, and the Timberwolves have little space below the luxury tax line.

If RHJ wasn't going to be in the 10-man rotation (which he wasn't), the growing cap hit came at a cost.

It's amazing that a 15th player on the roster at the League minimum would be enough to bump this team (team with the 3rd worst record last season) over the luxury tax line. Call me crazy, but it just doesn't seem like great cap management. But thankfully Rosas didn't let H-Gomez get away. :)

I should also add it's amazing that RHJ couldn't crack the Wolves' 10-man rotation after averaging nearly 19 minutes a game with a 53-19 team last season and 21 minutes with a 40-42 team the season before.

Unbelievable yet I called this days ago. Gersson Rosas does not value frontcourt players over backcourt players. Though, it's odd timing considering Jordan McLaughlin was just retained on a two-way deal. The Wolves could have had their cake and ate it too.

Minnesota just waived the best four on the roster.

You are correct, Cam. I just feel like closing my eyes and covering my ears until Rosas is gone. I just don't see his tenure ending well. His judgments seem so bizarre. But then again, we shouldn't forget about the system.

Wut?!!

If I'm McLaughlin I'm sorta pissed. They made him take a 2-way contract to keep an open roster spot?!?

Meanwhile they let RHJ go to stay flexible. I mean I get it but also it seems like a terrible move. Maybe they are also banking on nobody else signing him for a few weeks. How long is it till the trade deadline? Looks like it's March 25. Rosas is gambling on other guys being better than RHJ. I guess we will see.

Biggest winner from this move is Juancho in terms of playing time and opportunity. Of course now he is going to be compared to RHJ all the time by fans and they are very different players.

Edit: One positive is that Nowell had a nice preseason and we kept him around. I wasn't really in favor of letting him go before but even though I think RHJ can help this team now more than Nowell I think Nowell can become more valuable to this franchise than RHJ either on the court or in a trade. Also really glad McLaughlin is back.
