Noo-el, Noo-el, Noo-el, Nooo-eeeeel

Post by SameOldNudityDrew »

What would it take to get Nerlens No-el?

The first rounder Noel, the Sixers did say,
Was to sit on the bench almost ever-y game,
But Nerlens knows, he-e's too good to sit,
Philadelphia needs to figure out all this s**t,
No-el, No-el, No-el, No-el,
Wo-uld Tyus, Bazz, Bel-ly, or a pick suit you well?*

Noel is a weird case, I would love him on the team but there are a lot of questions with him.

1) what would it take to get him, I wouldn't want to trade any of the starting 5 or the 1st for him so can we get him idk.

2) how would he gel with the team I am guessing he comes off the bench then we would have 3 bench guys (Dunn,Noel and Aldrich) who are below average offensive players. We could start him and could he be a great rim runner on the PnR with ricky I think so. But is that better than the chemistry that lavine and Dieng have, I doubt it.

3) He is doing to get paid this offseason and are we willing to pay him for a mostly an unproven player with great defensive potential instead of paying vets.

4) Also has an injury past

So in a vacuum I would love to add noel but I don't know if he is the right choice, I would rather trade for a guy like Casspi or PJ Tucker

I don't have a strong position on Noel...I go back and forth on this one. But I had to post to give Drew kudos for some clever stuff!

Everyone on this forum knows I'm in favor of acquiring Nerlens Noel, so, I won't go too in depth with "why" in this post, but the "how" is a lot harder to answer. His perceived trade value has plummeted over the last several months and a lot of that has to do with Noel himself. First, he's a little banged up. Secondly, he wants out of Philadelphia and has essentially said just that. Thirdly, he isn't getting playing time in his current situation, and has commented on that, which only makes the second point all that much more obvious.

I'd offer Tyus Jones and a future lottery-protected first-round pick.

Just asking Cam so you would rather have noel and give up a future pick instead of going for a vet in the offseason.

Like others here, I question what level of free agent is willing to sign with Minnesota. That isn't because I think Thibodeau scares off players around the league. It isn't because I think Glen Taylor is necessarily cheap, though he has had his moments. I think the losing culture this franchise has established for over a decade is the bigger problem.

With that said, if I knew I could get Noel for Jones and a pick that probably ends up in the 20's, I'd be inclined to go for it. I see little to no downside of a Towns/Noel/Dieng combination and while he doesn't bring the veteran experience I think this team needs, he does bring game-changing defense to the table. Sign me up.

I like Noel because he's a disruptive defender and KAT isn't playing good interior defense yet. But he's still a liability on offense and injury prone and what's puzzling is that Philly doesn't give him much love. I would only trade Bazz for him right now, even though I think he's a much better asset. Why? He'll be a restricted free agent and I don't want to get in a bidding war for him because we just paid Deng and we have three young guys to pay soon. I'd trade Bazz and Tyus if we could work out a salary extension at a reasonable amount. I don't know what we can afford to pay him and if he'd even consider taking a deal with us knowing that he might not even start. If Glen opened his wallet I'd rather go after Ibaka (FA) or Millsap (FA). I'm sure Brooklyn and the Lakers could potentially throw some big numbers Noel's way and if so, we should explore some other options (if any of them would willingly come here on a cheap deal). Free Agent bigs who are good defenders include Bogut (FA who I love if he's healthy), Pachulia (FA who has shown he'll sacrifice money for the right situation), Taj Gibson (FA probably will be too expensive unless we can get a little Thibs discount), Hibbert (FA could be a very cheap option but he clogs the lane), DeWayne Dedmon (plays well in limited minutes), Larry Sanders (FA if he's on a cheap deal he's worth the risk).

If Noel's an offensive liability, then on some level, so is Rudy Gobert, DeAndre Jordan, and Andre Drummond.

They all have similar roles and abilities offensively. Set picks, roll to the hoop attracting help defender(s) to open things up for shooters or to finish the play at the rim themselves, keep the ball moving, attack the glass. Noel's capable on that end, though he's going to earn his paychecks for his defense.
