Re: DLO is our leader!
Tough to disagree with this guy's take though. It's largely accurate. Eyes should be wide open with these two as the team leaders. What happens when the shots aren't falling? Are either of these two capable of making a big play on the other end?
Rosas had to do something, just had to, so I don't think the moves he made were wrong. But hopefully he and the marketing department don't invest so much in these two as to prolong the agony if or when they don't work out.

Re: DLO is our leader!
I agree that KAT has not demonstrated the maturity to be the leader on a championship contender.
But I don't agree with most of the rest of Friedell's take on KAT. I think Friedell has exaggerated the "catering" issue. I don't think there is a team in the League that wouldn't have given KAT a max deal given his consistently elite offensive and rebounding numbers combined with his age and durability at the time. Of course, KAT wanted Butler gone, but the Wolves had to get rid of Butler after his public trade demand and associated antics. We don't know whether Rosas gave the head coaching spot to Ryan solely or even primarily because of KAT. Rosas and Ryan had a preexisting relationship and he might have considered Ryan the best choice to be an extension of himself and Carey out the will of the front office. There was also pressure from the fan base and certainly pressure from Glen Taylor to hire Ryan. KAT had nothing to do wiht the decision to give Wiggins a max deal and Rosas didn't hesitate to trade KAT's friend Covington when the opportunity presented itself.
As for Friedell's take on Russell, it's hard to know. I'm not a Russell fan and have serious doubts about him as a core max-salary piece going forward, especially when paired with Towns. But I think it was a stretch for Friedell to say the Warriors traded DLO because of his "day to day attitude." It was clear to anyone with an ounce of sense that the Warriors never intended to keep Russell when they trade for him. They traded for him as way to get come value in return for Durant, who was leaving for the Nets no matter what. DLO's day-to-day attitude didn't stop the Nets from making the playoffs last season for the first time in a while. And even though the Nets traded him, it made sense to do so for basketball reasons since they were signing Kyrie Irving. Obviously, Kyrie and DLO would be a poor fit together since they not only play the same position but are very similar in the way they play, including their defensive shortcomings.
Having said all that, let me be clear. KAT needs to grow up and he has to improve his defense even though I don't believe he has the ability to become more than a mediocre defender. As for DLO, I do think he has some issues between his ears. Examples include his antics with Nick Young and his attempt to carry his weed on an airplane. But my main issues with DLO include his poor defense and the lazy passes we saw against the Raptors. I also don't like his lack of quickness, which prevents him from effectively breaking down defenses. J-Mac is better than Russell at disrupting defenses with dribble penetration and I'd say that J-Mac is also better defensively.
Nevertheless, Rosas had to do something. Russell is still 23 years old. Now it's a matter of getting the right head coach, setting the right expectations and surrounding KAT and Russell with the types of players that can compensate for their weakness and magnify their strengths.

Fridell has had it out for the Wolves since Thibs got there. There is merit in all of his points but from what I can tell he's a Jimmy fan and has been since he covered him on the Bulls. It doesn't surprise me that he's the guy sullying Russell's name on the way out. That being said to this point he's right on both players, they haven't been very good. They need to get their shit together and start winning. Winning is the only tangible way to define leadership in this game anyway. I do hope the Russell trade was the end of placating KAT. He's gotten everything he wanted, he needs to start getting wins or they should trade him.

Ethan Strauss
Marcus Thompson
Anthony Slater
Nick Friedell
Each is a beat writer for the Warriors... and each has written/opined on recent situations with a decidedly PRO-WARRIORS take. It's obvious with all of them that they are doing the Warriors' bidding with recent criticisms and/or "Towns monitoring" stories.
I'll keep calling it out when it happens... but they're really starting to pile up now. Maybe the team needs to cool its jets a bit before it becomes TOO obvious.
The Warriors PR team -- leans on its beat writers more than probably any other organization.

I guess we will keep getting bullied until we cave and give up Towns. Kind of a ruthless industry if you dwell on it too much. I don't know why the Warriors would stop when it's working for them. It's not like the Wolves have much to stand on with our storied history. It's just common practice for everyone in the media to treat us like the farm team for the real NBA.

I think it goes beyond angling for Towns.
It's always bothered me when the local announcers are hometown bobos who are extremely reluctant to offer criticism to those writing their checks. I find it insulting.
The Warriors appear to have some deals (access) in place with its beat writers, too. Basically, even a guy like Friedell (ESPN employee) is basically a team employee. That's not journalism. That's cronyism. Basically, it's an extension of the team's PR team, under the guise of reporting.

Yes, Rosas had to do something. But he didn't have to do this. Maybe Glen just didn't have the appetite for another complete rebuild, and Rosas did the best he could under the circumstances. But building something on a shaky foundation is the wrong approach in my opinion. Hope we get lucky.

There was no effing way Glen was gonig to sign off on a KAT trade. We may muse about it here, but they simply were not going to give up on him. Now eventually they may come ot that conclusion. And if they do, we are in better position to rebuild with our current assets than the ones we had just a couple weeks ago before all the trades.
Re: DLO is our leader!
All indications are that Warriors were eager to move DLO, seriously, but they leaked stories to counter this. Rosas got suckered and gave up way too much. There was no reason to make the trade now. Reminds of when Wolves signed Wiggins earlier than they needed to.
