That's crazy considering DeMar DeRozan hurts his teams more than he helps and coaching just doesn't matter.
Re: We have Towns and the Spurs are 18-13
Maybe Towns doesn't take coaching, I mean he hasn't gotten any better at his strongest skill sets and hasn't improved any weaknesses. Meanwhile I would bet the Spurs have guys that can hit shots.
Re: We have Towns and the Spurs are 18-13
I wonder if the Spurs would want Towns.....

U know that ain't the point.

Ahh, I remember when Devin Booker was a perennial loser. The Phoenix Suns are 121-280 (.302) since drafting him in 2015. Booker is a good numbers guy, but he just can't win. He's fun to watch, sure, but what a bum. He gets his numbers, but what a loser.
That was before the Suns acquired a bevy of quality complimentary and supporting pieces -- as well as an additional star player -- and a new head coach to turn around the team. It began to click late last season and now they are 23-11, second in the Western Conference, and have won 15 of their last 18 games. I can't believe they're achieving all of this early 2020-21 success with that loser Booker. Impossible.
One man should be able to drag a team to the playoffs annually even though arguably the best player of all-time, LeBron James, was unable to achieve that very feat in 2018-19. Losers, all of them, for requiring help along the way. Unbelievable.

Enough. Chris Paul didn't fit our timeline.

Thanks for the dose of reality, Cam.

I also think the NBA is well past the days of one guy being able to carry an entire team of mediocrity (like KG did). There is too much talent - way more talent collectively than in prior eras.
Having said that, KAT has not been at his best since coming back a few weeks ago. He's easily our best player, but almost never the best player on the floor when you include the competition.

WWPD.
The Spurs contend/compete year in and year out because they follow through. They never "blow it up" or make dramatic changes.
They develop players within their system and they work their system.
They are smart enough to realize that you probably can't make much of a difference in the NBA at 19 or 20 so they invest in their players with time and coaching.
The premise of this thread is counter to what makes San Antonio successful
