Probably not worth a threat but I saw it.
The Timberwolves have signed Chris Silva, the team says. It's a training camp deal.
Silva is a big with actual NBA experience you might remember from his days in Miami. But a 6'8 athlete big, similar to Vanderbilt and Knight, not a true center.
Per Dane.
Chris Silva averaged 3 pts and 2.5 rebs in 7 minutes a game. In 3 year career

Just another camp body. Thanks for sharing though, kek.
Re: Chris Silva training camp deal
I actually have heard of Chris Silva and if you follow Gabon basketball, then you know who Chris Silva is. He's the longest tenured NBA player from Gabon and second since Stephane Lasme. The Gabon Gazelle is a longshot to make the roster, but he somehow made Miami's roster and scored 13 points in an NBA game.
Re: Chris Silva training camp deal
Nobody mentioned Brian Bowen. He has the best hair in the NBA outside of Nicolas Claxton.

Brian Bowen II, Matt Lewis, Isaiah Miller and Chris Silva all signed to camp deals.

A couple things about Silva. He was with the Heat organization for almost 2 years. That's a good place to have been. He is a foul and turnover machine. I'm guessing he will land in Iowa with these other guys. Matt Lewis is the only shooter of this group.
Bowen was a part of the Louisville scandal. He never played in college.

Ha, good analysis of Silva, monster. I've never heard of him frankly, and I was kind of excited when I saw his size and stats...especially his rebounding and blocks. But when you mentioned turnovers and fouls, I looked up his per 36's. Are 16 fouls and 4 TOs per 36 bad (lol)?
Anyway, let's keep in mind that this guy didn't even know the rules of basketball when he came here from Gabon, and his coaches have raved about his work ethic and desire to get better. I think he's a worthwhile signing for a team desperately in need of size and toughness.
One fun stat: he made 50% of his 46 threes his senior year at South Carolina. Combine that with 75% free throw rate his final three years in college, and might we have a stealth 3 and D power forward?

Re: Chris Silva training camp deal
Minnesota should have signed Garrison Mathews and Reggie Perry to camp deals instead of a couple of the guys they did. Perry just signed with Toronto. I'd actually prefer to have Perry on a two-way deal over Nathan Knight and Mathews is arguably better than Josh Okogie and Jake Layman right now. I think he's still eligible to be signed to a two-way deal himself. Would I rather have him or McKinley Wright? I'd take Mathews.
Nonetheless, the Wolves roster is essentially locked in barring a Ben Simmons trade. None of these guys will stick.

I personally like Knight more than Perry.
I'd guess that Mathews was hoping for a better deal than a 2-way contract. It does seem like based on the stats he put up he is deserving of at least a 1 year vet min deal.
I remember most people on this board being pleased with the Wright signing.
As you pointed out unless there is a trade (moving Layman is another possibility) all these camp deals are just that $50,000 to get paid to be with the organization before they get sent down to Iowa to show out for the rest of the league. They weren't likely to get super exciting players to sign these deals knowing they basically have no chance at making a roster. They probably picked guys they knew wanted to play for them in Iowa. As much as I kinda like Bowen as a Jake Layman type (likely won't even that "good" at the NBA level) who doesn't help doesn't hurt type I would have liked to see another guy. They may see him as a guy that is good to have with the other players they will have in Iowa. Personally I'm kinda excited about the fact that I assume we will have a full G-league season this year. It's another opportunity for players and teams around the league to add more talent. If Wright doesn't show enough game they could let him go and sign someone else. It will be interesting to see who all ends up on the Iowa roster.
