Is all hope lost??
Can the wolves legit build a contender around Kat from where they are at now.
Wolves have no cap space. Have a max contract in Wiggins that isn't a max player. Wolves have no NBA caliber player at PG. Wolves got no future assets for Teague (I mean the kings got 2 2nds for Ariza).
Culver looks solid hopefully he develops. Nowell doesn't even play, okogie is what he is, naz won't play for 2 years because of the 1 big system.
Wolves trying to trade one of their only good players in Cov.
Im just sort of defeated and don't know how the wolves are going to build a playoff team around Kat.

I still think it's possible to build a playoff team around KAT, but Rosas really has his work cut out for him. As for being a real contender, I think that is nearly impossible with KAT as long as he plays Center.

Am I the only one who thinks that it's 0% Saunders decision to play the one big lineup? Other people see this as rosas all the way, right?

Re: Is all hope lost??
Sure, we can build a playoff team, but we ain't ever contending unless someone like culver blows up into a d wade:). I would still trade towns and Wiggins right now and start over to so it right
Re: Is all hope lost??
Yes, all is lost. How many fans will sit around for three more years of losing? Why would anyone continue to follow this team when the GM and Coach have come out and stated they don't care about wins/losses? Why would anyone go to a game to watch a team that isn't committed to winning.
This team needs to keep KAT and Culver and get what ever they can for everyone else and start from there. They need to change their draft strategy to include 3 and 4 year college players for picks that are mid first round and later. We have a better idea of what we have, and would address a major weakness of having to develop them. We need to bring in guys that are productive by their second season, and just maybe have the drive to improve. What are a refreshing change it would be to have guys out playing their contracts for a change.
Thibs screwed this team up when he failed to have a conversation with Butler before he traded for him. Simply asking Jimmy what it would take to get an extension signed could have changed the direction of the team. It would have been difficult because he had already given Dieng that ridiculous deal, but he would have still had time to move Wiggins, and actually get something for him before over paying him.
Now we have a new GM who also doesn't understand the difficulties of bringing in talent, and thinks he can implement a system and fill the needed players later. Just like Thibs, he seems unwilling to admit when things aren't going as planned. How can we consider trading Cov, when we need two more players just like him to run this system? What GM installs a 3 pt shooting system on one of the worst shooting teams in the NBA?
There is no hope unless Taylor sells this team, or the few paying fans left start to boycott games.

Re: Is all hope lost??
Kat cannot anchor a contender playing the 5. I don't think it could be more clear. He can be part of a contender, but you have to be able to get stops in the 4th quarter and we will never be able to do that with him at center. I tend to agree with DD22, I wouldn't mind seeing them start all over.
Re: Is all hope lost??
This is the Organizations 31st season and they've had one legitimate season where winning the whole thing was realistic.
Hopeless has been in the rear view for some time now.
Look at the OKC Thunder. They've lost Durant, Harden and Westbrook in the span of how many years? And they currently have a 25-19 record.

Re: Is all hope lost??
I'll answer Kekgeek' s question directly with a resounding no! All hope is definitely NOT lost. We need three things.
First we need a coaching staff who addresses the issue identified by Cool - that is, the need to pair KAT with a defensive big. That defensive big doesn't have to be an allstar or anything close to that level. He simply needs to be a very good defender. Heck we might even have that guy on the roster in Vonleh, but he doesn't get playing time. Actually, Gorgui proved to be a very solid defender in KAT's absence, yet our coaching staff has thus far refused to play Gorgui and KAT together.
Second, and more importantly, this team needs a second allstar caliber player at the PG or SG position who can score and handle the ball. The Wolves will need to acquire that player via the draft, trade or free agency because I don't see a player on the current roster with that potential, except perhaps Culver. Just imagine any number of young all-star caliber players in the League today who, if on the Wolves roster, would likely put this team in the playoffs with the potential to eventually contend. Here's a partial list: Ja Morant, Donovan Mitchell, Jamal Murray, Luka Doncic, Trae Young, Siakam, Giannis, and Shia G-Alexander. I'm not suggesting we could have drafted or acquired any of these players. My point is that we're one such player away from having a playoff team with even higher-end potential. Note that some of the players I listed were guys the Wolves could have drafted. Others might have been gettable with a savvy Butler deal on draft day in 2018.
Finally, this team needs one or two more good 3-point shooters on the team and in the rotation. There's no reason the Wolves can't do that.
As long as the Wolves have KAT, they will be one defensive big, one all-star caliber guard and one really good 3-point shooter away from being a playoff team and possible contender. We may already have the defensive big we need on the roster in Vonleh or Gorgui. Meanwhile, the Wolves will likely have a top 11 pick in next June's draft. They also have some promising young players on the current roster in Culver, Okogie, Nowell, Reid, Layman and Martin. Wiggins' play thus far this season has likely giving him at least some positive trade value. Covington is very solid as a player with Wolves and he appears to have very high trade value right now.
So there is still hope - realistic hope - for this team. But it all depends whether Rosas is much better than the parade of bad to mediocre PBOs the Wolves have had thus far in the 30 year history of this franchise.

Thanks for the response, I appreciate you still have positivity. I don't disagree with your points on what we need just think going to be close to impossible (of course it can always happen).
With your 1st point on a defensive big I don't disagree with but I can't see it happening. Gorgui has been a top 4 player for the wolves this year and they don't play 2 bigs ever. I just can't see the wolves ever playing 2 bigs.
Im just beat down as a fan. I really hope it changes but in my head I just see the same result as this year for the next 3 years and then we start the full rebuild again. It's just sad. And im just beat

Re: Is all hope lost??
At what point should we stop saying we need to surround kat with this, this and that for him to be successful? Even if we acquired a great defensive 4/5 guy, these clowns are only going to play their one big lineup lol. I'd like to see vonleh start next to towns for the rest of year and Gorgui being the 3rd big. Vonleh might actually be the kind of guy kat needs, but we're not gonna find out. If this season is about experimenting, then let's experiment with the two big lineup. Either way we need a perimeter guy who's as good or better than towns in order to contend. I'm frustrated because we need to be the team taking the home run swings on guys like porter (trading up) or Fultz (last year). I did like the the culver, Noel and Martin pickups though. I don't know if I have a better answer, but I'd be taking chances and trying more things
