Jarred Vanderbilt's role with KAT sidelined

Post by KG4Ever »

Jarred Vanderbilt had an impressive game against the Lakers. He was part of a three headed time share with Naz and Ed Davis at Center. I think Jarred got some of Naz's minutes in the second half because Naz was playing out of position too often.

I'd like to see Jarred get 18 plus minutes a night as long as he plays well.

Do you think Jarred is likely to eat into Naz or Davis's minutes? What about some PF minutes?

As a Wolve's fan I'm curious to see what Jarred can do, but also as a Fantasy Guy, Jarred would probably be valuable in a 220 player league which I'm in, if he can crack 18 minutes.

Well, we've seen four whole games this season so I think we can draw all the conclusions we need to about a player at this point.

Everyone knows Vando is my guy. I think he will continue getting spot minutes as a 10th or 11th man and if he keeps on producing, he could edge out Davis from the rotation.

I actually feel pretty good about our longer-term situation with our bigs (in addition to KAT), specifically Reid, Vanderbilt, and McDaniels. These guys need more polish and experience, but there is some real talent there. I just think we need another year (which I know someone like Abe hates to hear, but at the end of the day it's the reality. Rosas did not land us the type of vet PF we all would have liked this season).

Jared Vanderbilt had an incredible game tonight, watching him battle Jokic in post up after post up brought a tear to my eye

With KAT out, Vanderbilt should get 25+ minutes a night. He's not an 18 or 19 year old rookie. It's time to get him on the court for significant minutes, we what he's got and give him the chance to develop in game competition. It's not like he'd be taking minutes away from anyone better. I mean, seriously, does Ed Davis have much of a positive impact on the team? And is Ed Davis potentially part of this team's future? KAT's out so play Vanderbilt.

Vanderbilt had a very good game tonight. Tonight also shows how bad of a job rosas did to build the wolves roster for this season. We dont have any respectable big after Towns. Zero. Not one of our bigs can crack the rotation of a sure playoff team.

That said, with towns out. Our best option is to give vanderbilt as much time as possible to hopefully build him up or up his value. He cant shoot but at least he plays hard
all the time and that is easier to root for.

The fact that we are talking about vanderbilt as the most watcheable and playeable big on the roster without KAT shows the terrible job rosas did to build our frontcourt.

The thing I liked most about Vanderbilt's game last night? 0 turnovers. For those of us that know his game from watching the G-League last year (that was my refuge when it was clear the Tank was on), that has been a huge problem for him. The hustle, blocks, rebounds, and steals are the real deal. Those things translate from league to league generally. So the big thing with him is slowing down a bit and making better decisions.

How to best use him going forward? I think for now off the bench 18-25 MPG is fine. There is no way he can play 30 MPG with that kind of frenetic energy. And when KAT gets back, I am really hoping Saunders gets him on the court with KAT for good stretches. Now you have real NBA size on the floor, but without the spacing problems because KAT is an elite shooter. I don't like the idea of Vanderbilt being relegated to minutes only at Center. In fact, if Reid gets his confidence back as a shooter, he could play with Vanderbilt too.

If Juancho can give us a productive 28 MPG like he did at the end of last year (and last night), I like Vando getting his 20MPG backing him up at PF until he proves he is ready to play starter's minutes at PF. Unfortunately he may have to pick up a few minutes at C until KAT is healthy, but that of course is not his optimal position.

Q, I also noticed the zero TO's last night. He knows he's not a shooter, and he seemed to fashion himself somewhat as a playmaker at times in the G League last year- and not always with the best results. I like him looking to facilitate and note his 2 assists last night, but he has to continue to not force things. Ryan needs to keep both Edwards and him on a short leash if they get away from what they do best.

These are two of my favorite plays from Jarred last night, the blow-by Jokic and the pass to Ant
