Would you trade Kat if it meant
Would you trade Kat if it meant
You got this coming years first pick in the draft and whatever team it may be's first pick the next two years after. All hypothetical I know, but would you consider it? Would you hesitate becuz of the talent or becuz of the organizations ability to recognize the right talent?

3 picks including the number 1 this year? If it were Detroit, Orlando or Chicago then yes. If Washington no becuase I dont think those other 2 picks would be great.

Well, those first-round picks besides the first overall pick would be spaced out over four years because of the Stepien Rule. A team can get much better in that amount of time so I'm not sure how great those picks would end up being, especially if they're pairing a 25-year old Karl-Anthony Towns with whatever other young star they have prior to the trade.
I'd need a proven young player coming back in addition to those draft picks in that scenario. Someone of similar caliber to Mikal Bridges or DeAndre Hunter at the very least. Trades are all about incoming value versus outgoing value to me and because of Towns' talent, age, and years remaining under contract I think it'll be very difficult to find a trade worth accepting for Minnesota any time soon.

The likely chance of Kat requesting to be traded ( lets be honest, they all do it at some point) doesn't concern you? Best get while the gettings good, no?

I'm less worried about KAT requesting a trade and more worried about finding anyone even close to replacing his worth, which makes me very hesitant to even entertain trade offers for him right now.

If Edwards can continue to come on in his development, I would be less hesitant to trade KAT. We really need that strong #2 and hopefully Edwards grows into it quickly. But I agree with Pork in that it is very likely KAT wants out at some point, and I think it will be sooner rather than later.
Re: Would you trade Kat if it meant
We should hold onto KAT. KAT is a legit difference maker. If he is playing then we have a shot each game. He elevates the whole team with his presence. The task is to put the right talent around him. Whether its dlo, edwards or some other guy, we need to find him that guy. Keep towns and give him a legit squad.
Re: Would you trade Kat if it meant
I'm with Cam and World on this. KAT is an extraordinary talent - an elite big who can give you 25/12/5 every game and who is exceptional as a scorer both in the post and behind the arc. He's just turned 25 and is only scratching the surface of his passing ability. His one weakness, defense, looked much better in his early action this season before the injury. There's never been another big like him and may never be again. The odds of getting a return that matches what he brings are slim.
The Wolves need to ride the KAT train as long as they can and hope the front office gets luck, smart or both in their effort to put enough talent around him to get this team into the playoffs and hopefully beyond. It's not like the Wolves are entirely bereft of talent. While I'm not a fan of DLO, he and Beasley are both talented young vets. Meanwhile Edwards, McDaniels, Naz Reid, JMac, Vando and Nowell are all talented young players who are improving and could help elevate this team's play with KAT back or bring back veteran talent in return as part of a trade.
If and when KAT asks to be traded, then the Wolves front office will have to seriously explore trade possibilities. But he hasn't made the ask yet and I don't see him doing so based on this season given the fact that he's been out and that this has been a weird season due to Covid. I could see him asking for a trade late next season if we're struggling with him in the lineup, but until then I'd keep focused on trying to make things work with him here. And I'd be in no hurry to trade him even if he does eventually ask out. The Pelicans didn't trade Anthony Davis until at least a year after he demanded a trade.

Re: Would you trade Kat if it meant
I would pull the trigger in a heartbeat. Give me some Cade Cunningham all day and every day. Him and Edwards would be a solid foundation along with a few extra draft picks to go along with our own picks.
The team isn't going anywhere as constructed with Towns. So this would be a great get out of jail free card for the wolves.
I don't think anybody that wins the lottery would do that trade though. 2 first round picks along with the number 1 overall pick would be too much to give up.

I disagree. I think most teams would do that deal for KAT. I'm amazed sometimes at how undervalued KAT among some Wolves fans. I guess familiarity breeds contempt. KAT is unicorn talent who is barely 25 years old. If he were on the trading block, NBA front offices would be drooling over the possibility of acquiring him. Giving up 1st round draft picks who have yet to play an NBA game would be an easy price to pay.
