Saunders hasnt been great but..

Post by Porckchop »

The NBA isn't the NFL. Coaching is less responsible for wins and losses in basketball. We discuss how Ryan should be able to find a successful rotation of his players. Reality is this team doesn't have enough talent top to bottom to find 5 players to put on the court at one time to be successful. Houston, Philly, and 76ers have had a gluten of talent and still failed.
Yet we are wondering why we can't win games with okogie, Culver and Rubio? Somehow its a coaching issue? It's like blaming the coach for the Generals for not finding a way to beat the globtrotters.

That Generals coach should have told his player that he was gonna be pantsed at the free throw line after seeing it for 867 straight games.

That's on him.

Brings up a funny story about the Globetrotters. Back during Dennis Miller's stint in the Monday night football booth with Al Michaels, the truck flashed up the score of the Generals finally winning a game. If I remember right, Michaels said something like "and there it is, the end of one of the all time winning streaks". I think the final score had the Generals winning by 4. And in a moment of wit and brilliance, Miller deadpanned, "damn, I had the trotters +3". That is just funny on so many levels.

I think NBA coaches can have a much greater impact on losing than they can on winning. A team lacking talent will suck to one degree or another no matter the coach, and talented team will win to one degree or another no matter the coach. A coach putting together poor rotations, substitution patterns, and not using time outs at good times can kneecap a talented team, and subject Wolves fans to more of the same old BS.

To those saying its the team we have let me remind you.... okc traded basically their entire team away for future 1st rounders. There roster is literally a whos who of basketball and retreads with exception of s-g-a. They are currently 9 and 11.

Crazy, I think you may be guilty of something we all are guilty of here sometimes...inflating the value of the roster Rosas has given Saunders to coach...especially with KAT out. I would much prefer to coach the OkC starting 5 than the 5 Saunders has had to coach with KAT out. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is better than Beasley, and Horford is way better than Reid, and I might even be considered a homer to say the other three positions are even (DLO/Hill, Rookie Edwards/Dort or Diallo, and Bazley/Okogie). This isn't just my opinion. Look at the respective stats of each team's starting five (and I'm talking about the comprehensive stats Q cites in truly evaluating a player's value, not just offensive stats like PPG) and try to make an argument that our starting five is better than OkC's. Now, if KAT is playing, it turns things around, because I might argue that KAT is way better than Horford, and DLO paired with KAT might be better than Hill (although the value stats might say this is also a homer stretch).

The hard truth remains this: I don't care who the coach is. This team is not going to win 1/3 of its games as long as KAT isn't on the court.
