Wolves vs Cavs part 2

Post by kekgeek »

Huge 5 game road stint. They have the Cavs, Spurs, thunder twice and the struggling Mavs. If the Wolves want to make any type of noise this season the Wolves need to have a good stint here.

-Kat is out tonight but is on the road trip
-Hernangomez is questionable dealing with injury management (I'm guessing for conditioning do to covid)
- Naz and Dlo questionable
-Culver is out.

Need to at least go 3-2 in this stint if the Wolves want to get back into this thing. (Wolves currently 4.5 GB of the play-in games)

Five very winnable games even without KAT. I'm not saying they will, and we definitely need our big guy back, but that's not a scary lineup of opponents by any means.

I'll be the realist and say I expect a loss tonight and likely a losing record on this road trip. You don't achieve the worst net rating in the league after nearly 20 games without having some really serious issues.

My hope is that they are mostly competitive, keep the games reasonably close, may be win one or two, and start seeing some guys separate themselves from the logjam of mediocre vet/inexperienced youth group of players that makes up the majority of the roster.

I'm with Q...no game is a likely win as long as KAT is out.

Cam somewhat tongue in cheek predicted a 40/20 night last night for Drummond, and it turned out he was quite prescient. If KAT and Reid are out tonight and a no-longer-young Davis has to fight a bigger off again, Drummond might actually get that 40/20 tonight.

I hope somehow Naz plays. The extra size would help a ton for this one.

I think the clear strategy is to allow these bigs to go one-on-one and avoid doubling as much as possible in order to give up post-up shot attempts versus 3-pt shot attempts. In the last two games, the Wolves defense has only given up 16 3-pt attempts in each game. That is exactly in line with "the system", whereby we win the 3PTA battle (now we just need to make them more often).

Overall, the strategy worked against Drummond and didn't work against Embiid.

I wonder if D-Lo is cleared to play back-to-backs yet.

Ryan just announced Dlo will play, Naz is a game time decision

Outstanding, we're going to feast on.....oh, nevermind, they have freakin' Jarrett Allen as their backup! He might be a better all-around talent than Drummond for God's sake! Those trades Cleveland made really created a glut of quality bigs.
