Wolves/Pels Saturday night post-game review

Post by FNG »

Well, Abe called it...let the Rubio/Russell conversation begin!

What a game, huh? I wouldn't have given the Wolves much of a chance with their two max players out, but that was a terrific and much needed win. And how about Ricky? I've been both down on him and asking for Ryan to start him all season, and even though I'm a big Ricky fan, I have to admit he surprised even me tonight with his 22/12/6 with 4 steals and only 1 turnover (which I actually blamed on Davis...he's gotta catch that ball). You could tell he had something to prove tonight right from the first possession when he lobbed that perfect alley-oop into Vando.

And it's amazing how shooters who have been inept all year outside the arc suddenly become Steph Curry with a PG who gets them the ball at just the right time. Edwards 3-6, Culver 2-4, even Okogie 2-3! Beasley led all scorers with 25 points, but he may find himself coming off the bench after DLO returns from his well-deserved rest. I don't see how Ryan can not start Ricky after what he showed tonight.

It's just one game I know, but I'm no longer talking top 3 pick...I'm talking playoffs again!

Rubio 4 points and 4 to's. What else did you expect?

Outstanding game. Now we head back to Target Center for a long home stand. The wind is at our back fellas!

So after almost 15 years of futility the fever dreams have finally taken hold.

DLO didn't play. Rubio kind of sucked. We won by 10 anyway.

Addition by subtraction or was it just our night to finally win one?

And according to the Pelican's announcer, "he was cutting up the Pelicans". The ball flow is much better with Rubio and JMAC than with DLO.

Rubio played well overall. The last turnover was BS. He made nice passes and could have easily had over 10 if more Wolves hit their shots. JMAC was very impressive. I hope we give DLO more rest days.

Abe's late night review:

- Better ball movement. Bigs didn't let Williamson truck them at the rim.

- Vanderbilt. Culver. Reid. McLaughlin. All had their moments.

- Rubio was fine. Still can't shoot. Moved the ball pretty well. Seemed more angry and frustrated than anything at several moments.

- Edwards took 14 shots in 20 minutes. He's 15 - 56 (27%) in the past 4 games... in 97 minutes. He has 4 assists... in 97 minutes. I'm sure we have a few pickup veterans here... so I ask you... what do guys without much hoops experience do... they shoot more than you think they should. Why? Because they don't know where anybody else is going to be at any time. But the hoops is always there, so they shoot. (Maybe that's just my experience.) Long story short, Edwards shoots too much and doesn't pass enough, which is a sign that (1) he's athletic enough to get a lot of shot offs and (2) he doesn't really know what he's doing in a team setting.

- Bledsoe was awesome in the first half. He was horrendous in the 3rd quarter and seemed to bring his whole team with him. To be fair, it was fun to see another team go through that instead of the Wolves.

- Williamson (#1), Ball (#2) and Ingram (#2)... Towns (#1), Edwards (#1) and Russell (#2)... and these two teams are arguably the league's most disappointing teams.

- I feel bad for JJ Redick. That was rough to watch. He's had a really nice career.

- It's fun when the Wolves win.
