Wolves vs. Wounded Warrior Grizzlies Part 1-Game Day Thread

Post by FNG »

I'm 1-0 in initiating GDT's, so I set my alarm early to get up and assume my leadership role in getting this one started. Somebody on this board has to step up to will this squad to the playoffs.

Come on, guys...look at this Memphis roster, or at least what's left of it, and tell me we aren't going to win this one. No Ja Morant. No Jaren Jackson Jr. No Justice Winslow. Nobody with a history of true 3-point success. I hope you gamblers out there are all over the Wolves - 3 points, because they are going to blow that line out.

Yes Dillon Brooks has played well against us, but overall he is a below average NBA SG. Put Josh Okogie on him if you need to, but I don't know that we need to. Just don't start the game with Russell on him...put him on Tyus instead. The matchups look very favorable...heck, even Juancho has a rare athletic advantage over Kyle Anderson!

A healthy Memphis team would be a challenge for this still unreliable Wolves team, but this team is missing their two top players and another guy they were counting on to perhaps start at SF. Sure they have won 2 in a row, but their wins were against a Nets team missing their only 2 all-stars and a woeful Cavs team. This is the softest week the Wolves will have all season with only 2 home games against Memphis on the schedule. We simply have to win both to finish the week 5-7 to have any right to talk about challenging for a playoff spot.

Okay, I'm done totally jinxing our favorite team...go Wolves!

It's true that the Wolves have the talent edge on paper based on Memphis missing two of their best players, BUT the guys they do have are high-IQ types that defend. So don't be surprised to see this team doggedly hang in there with us and take a game.

The two guys in particular that just always seem to make the right play are Tyus Jones and Kyle Anderson. They are very Spurs-ian type players. And Gorgui is a very solid bench big that can defend when he doesn't have to play with a bunch of Jamal Crawford types on the perimeter.

However, put the damn clamps down on Wolves killer Dillon Brooks and then suddenly this team runs out of scoring options very quickly.

Yep, Q, they do play smart. They defend and rebound well, and they don't turn the ball over. But they are the least athletic starting lineup in the NBA by far in my opinion. And I like it that the guy that we have to worry about most on 3-pointers is below 33% this season and only average for his career...I think he will really struggle with Josh on him if Ryan deems it necessary. I see Valanciunas as by far their best player with Morant out, but he wouldn't start at center on our team. Kyle Anderson never seems to do anything wrong on offense or defense, but his nickname of "slow-mo" is well-deserved...Juancho kicks his ass in a 100 yard dash every time! The talent difference in the available players tonight is so extreme that I almost worry about overconfidence. But a 3-7 team would be foolish to take anything for granted, and with the two pre-season losses to the Griz fresh in their minds, I think they play hard tonight.

Wolves -2.5. If we are full strength it would be great to see us run away with one (or two).

Would love to see everyone touch the ball in the first two sets.

Dillion Brooks at 18.5 pts over under for tonight seem like easy over for me.

That, my friend, is bulletin board material for Josh Okogie and Jarrett Culver! Through my emissary to the Wolves, they have received strict orders to shadow, harass, and basically make life miserable for Mr. Brooks!
