Starting line up

Looks like this is the plan for the rest of the year.
I think this is analytically driven because they've been the most productive 5 man unit. I think kbd fits better than okogie for starting games. Okogie just seems better coming off the bench.

Happy Graham is out of the starting lineup, but agree that they picked the wrong guy to start in his place.

Re: Starting line up
The bench will look real bad.
You know teague and napier will share the floor.
I feel bad for kbd. Hes a plus net rtg as long as he shares the floor with either kat or wiggs or cov, but i don't think hes anywhere near a positive with anyone else. Ive mentioned it before, i think hes studied kat and wiggs and what they like to do.
Teague
Napier
Graham
Kbd
Dieng
Until layman comes back or a trade takes place?
I cant see teague, graham, and vonleh making it through december as a wolf.

Re: Starting line up
Seems like the type of move to make when you give up on the year and just try to give as much playing time to the young guys as possible.
Re: Starting line up
Okogie makes sense taking Graham's spot as point of attack defender. He will do better against lead guard than Graham be cause he is quicker. The numbers probably don't back it up that strongly but at this point I feel more confident when he takes a 3 than Graham. Okogie's rebounding will be nice to have in the starting lineup.
If KBD keeps playing well he will have no problem getting 25+ minutes off the bench or filling in for someone that gets hurt.
I'm telling you right now there will be some games Teague sits because of rest or some vague injury because...He probably just isn't right.

Okogie is 26% on the year while Graham is 20%.
I think Okogie passes on more 3P shots though from the key or wing areas where Graham would pull the trigger, often not ending the possession well either. KBD is shooting 53% on small volume of course from 3 on the year. I have not watched nor looked at the stats in for KBD in Iowa but I believe they were solid. I think they are rewarding Okogie for his work ethic and defense. I think KBD projects to be the better player long term considering he looks to be a great 3P shooter while Okogie is still very poor on solid volume.
I think too that they don't want to thrust KBD into the starting lineup so fast while not as familiar with the starting players nor playing against starters itself. KBD in the starting lineup likely would produce better results, but it could potentially backfire too if KBD started to struggle a bit. I think taking KBD along slower could be more precautionary not to throw too much on him at once.
The Wolves are not going to win an NBA Championship this season (duh), So really what we should want is to see player development and progress.
Re: Starting line up
I'm fine with that starting lineup. Regarding Okogie, we already have our three best scorers as starters, i.e., Towns, Wiggins and Covington. Okogie balances the lineup better than any of the alternatives since he is a better passer, ballhandler and defender than Graham or KBD. Regarding Culver, the offense tends to run much better with Culver than Teague at the point, but more importantly, it makes sense to commit to developing and evaluating Culver as our starting PG of the future. I also think this starting lineup will strengthen our second unit, which otherwise lacks scoring punch. KBD will provide more offensive firepower to the second unit in the absence of Wiggins, Towns and/or Covington.
This lineup might also be a statement from the coaching staff about this organization's commitment to defense. Right now, only 4 teams in the West give up more points per game than the Wolves and all but one of them is below the Wolves in the standings. The Wolves have the 14th rated defense on advanced measures, but that's below all the teams above the Wolves in the Western Conference standings. So defense remains an issue for the Wolves if they intend to become a true contender. This starting lineup should be very good defensively.
In the end, Culver or Okogie (hopefully both) will have to become a decent perimeter shooter if this team going to take a significant step forward. If that happens and Culver develops into a good lead guard, then this lineup could be the real deal in the long term. The rest of this season should be about developing those players and giving them every opportunity to develop individually and together with the starting lineup. So I like the move. And I remain comfortable with the Wolves as a lottery team this season with an eye towards evaluating and building for next season and beyond.

Your missing one thing about Okogie vs. KBD and it's that he is not a better shooter than KBD and that is our #1 issue as a team. Additionally, this actually makes our bench weaker, not stronger, in that Okogie has proven to be a very nice burst of energy coming off the bench.
Your hope about either Okogie or Culver becoming decent perimeter shooters is just that - hope. We've had years of data showing us how awful this team has been at taking poor shooters and turning them into anything other than continued poor shooters. Hell, we've taken good shooters and turned them into poor shooters (I'm looking at you Jeff Teague!).
