Re: Towns..
It's hard to rebuild now unless you try to move DLO as well. Trading for DLO was a commitment to stay the course with KAT. I'm encouraged by the development of some our peripheral options like Reid and Beasley. I'd feel a whole lot better about our future if we had dealt KAT and really built this thing the right way. Unless we can really get lucky in the draft this year, it's hard to see us getting into the top 4 in the West any time soon.
Re: Towns..
For better or worse, Rosas has decided to build around KAT and DLO as his core all-star duo. KAT is an elite offensive player AND an elite rebounder. Unfortunately, he's a bad defender. This team could become a top 4 contender in the West with KAT as its centerpiece, but it's especially difficult when the other centerpiece, DLO, is also a poor defender.
But I can still see this team becoming a contender around KAT and DLO. I have that hope because of the talent and trajectory of a number of young players on this roster, especially Beasley, Naz, J-Mac and Okogie. I'm still high on Nowell, who looked good last night in limited action against Orlando. And Culver is starting to show some positive signs. It's important to remember that Culver and Nowell are 20/21 year old rookies while Okogie is still only 21 years old. H-Gomez and Layman are also intriguing young talents and I still see lots of potential in Martin. The point is that, for the first time in memory, this franchise has assembled a critical mass of talented young players who are actually developing and showing signs of becoming really good.
Given this sizable group of young talent to fill out the rotation around KAT and DLO, I think it's reasonable to believe we are one really good defensive big away from becoming a contender. He doesn't have to be much offensively. Just someone who effectively defends the paint and blocks shots. There's a player in the League named Rudy Gobert who would fit the bill perfectly. I don't think we're in a position to trade for him, but remember that he was the 27th pick in the draft. And the Wolves don't need someone quite that good. I just don't buy the notion that it's nearly impossible for the Wolves to land that sort of player. We'll likely have a top 8 pick and the 16th pick in this year's draft along with a top 8 pick in the second round. I'd say we have the assets to get the defensive big we need either in the draft or through a draft-day trade. The jury's still out of Rosas as PBO, but the Beasley along with the acquisition and development of NBA and J-Mac are encouraging signs that we have a front office that can get the missing piece or two this team needs.

Re: Towns..
He won't be the best player on a title team but for a team simply seeking competence, he suffices for now.

Re: Towns..
Crazy thought, but if the Wolves want to completely blow things up they can still do so for an absurdly valuable return in two or three years. This current route at least gives the front office a chance to build something around two former All-Stars. Why not see what's there first? It makes perfect sense to me.

Yes. KAT's rep is going to continue to tumble until hes actually available in a trade. Then everyone is going to talk about what a great fit he is on the Lakers.

I agree with this, but I don't want to just seek competence. And I'm sure Rosas doesn't either. But he's basing his future on a flawed foundation. KAT and DLO are not going to be the two best players on a contending team. So somehow Rosas has to find a way to acquire a talent better than those two, or at least better than DLO. If he can find a way to pull that off we could have something.
Re: Towns..
Maybe this is weird but...is it possible we don't actually know yet even if we tend to say Towns isn't the guy to build around? We are literally weeks removed from basically a different rebuild and the roster turnover has been pretty significant. Rosas isn't done and shouldn't be but it might be worth seeing what this group has for some sort of sample size you know like...40 games? Lol The turnover of this franchise continues to be pretty astounding.

Fwiw, Zach Lowe mentioned the wolves in his Friday column, saying he likes what Rosas is doing with Kat/DLO
