More Silly "Reporting"
More Silly "Reporting"
Take a look at the latest in a long series of ridiculous reports about Rubio getting dealt to the Knicks. This one is from "Basketball Insiders":
"The worst-kept secret in the NBA is that the Timberwolves are ready to move on from guard Ricky Rubio, and it seems that Rubio may feel the same way. The Wolves entertained a few things last summer involving Rubio and revisited his trade value at the trade deadline back in February. The problem with moving Rubio around the draft is that he counts $13.5 million against the cap in trade at the draft. That number increases to $14.25 million in July, but some teams would have cap space to offset that number. Rubio has one more season after next on his deal, making the remaining debt to Rubio two years and roughly $29 million.
Comparatively, that's going to be less than market value for a starting caliber point guard, but with Rubio's injury history (he's missed 123 games in his six-year career) there is a risk. There has been talk that the New York Knicks might move on a Rubio trade if they miss out on one of the elite point guard prospects in the draft.
Sources near the Knicks situation said it's also possible the team looks to Rubio as the immediate answer at point guard and swings for the fences in the draft targeting a huge upside player like Jonathan Isaac, especially as the Knicks try to move on from Carmelo Anthony this summer.
Rubio recently changed agents, and there has been more talk in NBA circles of moving Ricky to a higher profile situation where he can establish a value for his next deal.
It's more likely than not that Rubio is moved this offseason. The question is can the Wolves get something done around the draft?"
Probably the more ridiculous part of the article is the suggestion that the Knicks could trade for Rubio AND still have their #8 pick to tak Jonathan Isaac. First of all, they're not getting Rubio without giving up their pick. Second, there is no way Isaac will be available at #8. It's not hard to spot idiots among so-called sports reporters.

Re: More Silly "Reporting"
Rubio has been tied to New York rumors ever since he was drafted all those years ago, yet people keep going back to the well on it. It's unbelievable.
I wouldn't rule out a Rubio trade, but New York only makes sense if there is a 3rd team involved, because to your point, they have almost nothing to offer us.

Re: More Silly "Reporting"
-Rubio has a good contact
-He is middle of the pack starting pg with a bottom 3rd salary.
-he is coming off his best 2 months of his career.
-the wolves have high 20s cap space. So no reason to do a cap dump.
-No assets on the Knicks roster. I mean none. #8 pick, KOQ and hermangomez only guys that have any value but only the 8th pick world be worth a trade and the Knicks won't do that

If you dig through all this the "source" for all these things is someone saying the the Knicls were interested in Rubio at the trade deadline and some league exutives who think the Wolves might be interested in moving Rubio. There is nothing new to report. Yawn

I had a good cuckle after reading the article. Maybe we can get #8 and Courtney Lee if we include Towns along with Ricky. :)
As we all know, the Knicks roster has nothing of value other than Porzingis and obviously they're not dumb enough to trade him for Rubio. Or maybe they are. :) No thinking human being, including Thibs, would take #8 pick straight up for Ricky, but the article took it to another level of absurdity by suggesting that the Knicks would somehow get Ricky and still have their #8 pick. As if that wasn't enough, the article's author took it to yet another level of ridiculous by speculating that the Knicks would get Isaac at #8.
Re: More Silly "Reporting"
Lip, you can't honestly think Rubio would fetch even close to the 8th pick in this draft?
I know I may not be looked at as the most objective person on this subject but if you could turn Rubio into either Kuzminskas or Hermangomez I'd do it in a second. Rubio wouldn't get a top 20 pick in this draft.

I don't know. I heard Rubio's been working on his 3 point shot. Team's in the know like the Knicks will see his value.

Rubio for Kuzminskas??? HAHA what a dumbass. That guy couldn't get any minutes for the knicks once his outside shot went south and some knicks question his ability to stay in the NBA but some around here want to trade our starting PG for him in a second. MORON.

First of all: Teams, not "Team's"
Second: ....and don't "Teams in the know" kind of, I don't know, win? Outside of Williston, ND and Saint Baartz, who considers Phil Jackson "In the know"?
And Third: Another summer, another round of rumors of Rubio "Craig Hodging" his way through Spain while waiting for supper to be served at midnight. What's wrong with MIN? Is supper served too early?
I agree, a deal with MIN ending up with Hermangomez, even taking on a pupu platter in a Carmelo deal, would be worth exploring. Nobody's giving up any firsts for BlondeRicky, and MIN shouldn't be giving up any. But the Knicks AND Phil Jackson need to be viewed for what they are, which at this point is not much.

I agree that maybe that shouldn't be the center of it, but if the deal has MIN taking on a particularly rancid pupu platter to grease the wheels in a Carmelo deal, and if that is who Thibs wants (along with Hermangomez hopefully), then he should get him. Shooting slumps happen. And the guy's a SF. So on a team with Carmelo, where exactly was he going to play?
