This is second big win where Zach was out, Maybe there is a lesson there

Post by TeamRicky [enjin:6648771] »

I just want to point out that we beat the Lakers by 26 when Zach sat out and tonight we looked great beating the Rockets without him. I do like Zach, but I think playing Zach and Andrew together has hurt us. Andrew and Zach are terrific scorers but don't do much else. What's more is that when they play together our defense is horrendous. Until at least one of them becomes a good defender, I think its best to move one of them to lead our second unit. KAT should be our number one option on offense and when you play the two together one of them becomes a third scoring option. That reduces the impact of their offense while giving us two guys who aren't really adept at covering small forwards. I just think for the good of the team Zach should be a sixth man (at least until he and Wiggs can play good defense together).

I hear what you're saying, but 1) two games does not make a trend, and 2) Thibs is playing the long game. That kind of move just isn't going to happen this year. He's going to keep riding these three young guys for now.

That being said, it was eye-opening to see Brandon Rush with a couple of chase-down blocks. We never see that from the bounce brothers, despite their ridiculous athleticism.

Those were huge plays by Rush. I think it's about experience. Zach and Wiggins just don't understand yet how those types of plays can turn the tide of games. Hopefully tonight was an eye opener.

I'd say you have to still start them. But separate them as much as possible and cut down their minutes in general. Use more Rush. Send Zach to the bench early and bring on Rush.

To be fair zach is always the first player to the bench

But Rush isn't the first off the bench. Also Zach plays too much in general, as does Wiggins. Cut 5 minutes from each & give it to Rush. I'd even minutes from Bazz and even Belly (if matchup is favorable).

I don't think trying different combinations in the starting lineup takes away anything from Zachs talent and huge strides this year. We saw tonight that we can bully smaller teams with size in certain situations. Just because Zach is a super talented wing and is one fifth of our most talented lineup doesn't necessarily mean that gives us the best potential matchup every game as a starter.

That being said I don't suspect Thibs or will make a move like that this year anyway. Zach deserves his spot as a stater as you have pointed out in the past with his hard work and improvement on both sides of the ball.

How about this break down: Zach and Wig start, at 6 min mark Rush comes in for Zach and him and Wig finish the 1Q,. At the start of 2Q Zach and Bazz come in and play til 8 min mark, then Rush and Wig come in to finish the half. This way Wig gets 16 min, Zach 14, Rush 10 and Bazz 8. Zach and Wig still start but spend only 6 min on the floor together. In the second half something similar can happen but Zach finishes and gets a little more minutes.
