I still believe

Post by Monster »

I'm going on record that I believe in this team. I believe in Thibs and the coaching staff. I believe in what Thibs and Layden are doing in the front office. I believe in this roster.

This team has struggled no doubt. Thibs has worked some magic with plenty of players in the past in his time with the Bulls. The bench has struggled and guys like Rush and Bazz haven't given the team much but both have enough of a track record in their respective careers that I think they will help the team this season. This team is gonna play better defense as time goes on. I think Thibs is gonna have more patience with the composition of the roster than people tend to think. I still believe this team will get to a very good place but it may take some time. It's also possible they go a pretty nice run at some point and really amp up the positive vibe around this franchise.

I'm not ready to bash Thibs and I think it's far too early to go into panic mode. But just remember what a couple of us argued ad nauseam before the hire. Was the controlling, overbearing Thibs the best guy for this group? Time will tell, but I was on record about that concern long before we ever played a game under him.

I'm with you, monster, but I do believe we need a trade to improve our bench. Outside of Towns, Wiggins, and LaVine, I'm okay with the idea of moving anyone. Aldrich has been a complete waste and neither Muhammad nor Rush have provided anything on either end of the floor. Bjelica has shown some signs of being a valuable player, but he does struggle with being consistent. Also, we're asking him to be the scoring punch of the second unit, but that's not what his best role is. And then there's the point guard situation, but I do feel like Jones needs the bulk of the bench point guard minutes and we'll be okay there.

Jon K has concerns about his in game stuff but he has said that Thibs has really dialed back when it comes to practices giving guys days off and doing more film work than just grinding them in practice for hours. That's a positive we will see if it continues.

I do think Bazz will come around like I said but I also see how it's tough to see how he fits long term. Other than that I am a. If proponent of keeping as much of this team together as possible within reason. Let's quit with the revolving door of players in and out. Let's keep some guys here and let this team grow together. It's also difficult to see any trade that's going to be partially significant. To clarify I'm not completely against a trade that makes sense but I think sticking with the guys we have could bring some positive results.

I still believe in this roster.

I still believe that our reserves are fine (although I agree with Cam that I would give Dunn's minutes to Jones), and think their excellent plus/minus numbers support my belief.

I believe that Thibs can be a very good coach, but he needs to be more flexible and, as others have said, pay more attention to the psychological side of coaching. My third belief is admittedly not as strong as my first two, and unfortunately has the potential to torpedo my first two beliefs.

I think a year from now our defense will look incredible, just like under Zimmer players look dumb as fuck when they haven't played in the scheme long enough to make it instinctual

Yeah, I'm talking out of both sides of my mouth to a degree in these various threads, but I would summarize my thoughts as such:

- It's too early to make any major roster changes, trades, etc.

- It's not too early to speculate on what changes might be needed starting next spring, as while I think these guys are patient, I don't think they or their fanbase can tolerate another offseason where the approach is conservative, we add yet another rookie lottery pick to the rotation, and we cross our fingers hoping these guys start to "get it".

Fair perspectives. I also don't think the Wolves should overpay in the next few months either by $$$$ or in terms of assets to make inprovements either. They need to be closer to being a contender before they do that type of thing unless it becomes REALLY obvious something needs to be done.

The one element that is missing without question is toughness. Both physical and mental. I think if you can add that element through acquisition to our core, you would see a huge difference. We get pushed around every game, and then we don't seem to have the stones to push back. On top of it we are fragile mentally. This is precisely what has been happening during our third quarter problems.
