Feeling bad for Ricky

Post by Porckchop »

I think his lack of confidence in his shot has spilled over into other aspects of his game. He has to be putting a lot of pressure on himself to be perfect in certain areas of his game to deflect attention way from his shooting. When self doubt creeps in it takes away from playing the game the way it comes naturally . He's looking a bit more robotic out there to me playing not to screw up instead of making things happen.

Lol. Pork, you feel bad for Ricky? That's like Donald Trump saying he's feels bad for the women he grabbed. Good comedy.

But you do make a good point. Ricky's lack of confidence has spilled over into all parts of his game, and you could say this about pretty much every guy on the roster. They lost all those close games early in the season, and now they are in a terrible rut of finding ways to lose games. I've never seen a team find more ways to lose than this year's Wolves. It's unreal. Right now guys are forcing parts of their games at the worst time. Strangely enough, Ricky is the one guy who seems to settle down in crunch time, and usually makes the right play. The problem is he's not the guy we need to make plays, and with Wiggins handling the ball maybe he shouldn't be in the game at all.

But yeah, confidence is a big part of basketball, and this young team, from Ricky on down, doesn't have it. The only way you get it is to close games--put together a winning streak. They simply haven't done it yet. You need confidence to win, but only winning gives you confidence. This is the catch 22 this team has been dealing with this entire miserable season.

Being critical of a guy doesn't mean you root for him to fail. I would gladly eat crow if he turned it around becuz it helps the team.
A thread with Trump and Ricky mentioned in it is bound to bring some togetherness to a board that is desperate for one thing we can all agree on;) Can anyone think of a Wolves player that has ever brought more differences of opinions? KG maybe?

Maybe Kevin Love.

Pork, I think my feelings about Thibs match yours about Ricky...I'm hyper-critical of him and think he is doing a terrible job coaching this team (and I think more here are coming over to this opinion as the losses continue to mount up), but I would LOVE to eat crow if the team started to win without Thibs changing his coaching style.

Ricky is having a very bad year and it's a contributing factor in this year's futility, and I agree with your opening post about Ricky playing robotically. It seems the joy is gone in his game, and it's not nearly as much fun to watch him as it used to be. Of course, I link Thibs' coaching style to the change in Ricky's performance...both interpersonal and schemes. But I don't have the answers any more than anyone else here does.
