Why Kmart should start

Post by kekgeek »

Now I am prepared to be absolutely ripped on this take but hear me out. Kmart has been bad this season and I don't think that is just coincidence that it coincides with him moving to the bench. I am a believer that he is the guy most on the wolves that needs to get a groove from the start, and if he dosen't have it he won't shoot his way out of it. I believe if he was put into the starting lineup his offense would go up dramatically playing with rubio, he also is a massive floor spacer. I think his defense has been fine this year and I believe moving him to the starting lineup again would jump start his season, and the wolves are going no where if he dosen't start showing up. (Long shot to go anywhere in the first place). I also don't think he has to play a ton either, let him play the first 6 minutes see if he starts hot and if not sub in zach at sg, and at the 8 minute sub in shabazz at SG zach to pg and prince can close it the quarter. Then sub kmart in for prince to start the 2nd quarter. Now zach has earned the right to start but I believe if the wolves want to do anything they need to get Kmart going (I believe zach can get himself going coming off the bench better than kmart) now here comes the ripping!

Ps: typed this on my phone so auto correct might screw me over on things

Looking at his splits throughout his career there is a massive drop off in all fg% when kmart is not playing 30+ minutes a game (to counter my point there is no difference when he is a starter compared to coming off the bench)

Kek, I don't think getting martin going is a priority at all. Getting wiggins, lavine and to a lesser extent, bazz going is and should be a priority. Martin is not part of the core going forward. In fact, I don't think martin has ever been part of a core that can seriously contend.

The best team he was on was his 1 year stint with okc. He was a bench player for them and only played 1 season there. That tells you what you need to know about martin. He will put up scoring stats but he just isn't an impact player at this stage of his career on a rebuilding team.

What's kinda funny is that despite K-mart's struggles, his TS% is the same as Wiggins. Obviously Wiggins is the far superior defender, but Andrew is using a lot of possessions to get his points and his 3-pt shooting has dropped off again. We really need him to become more efficient.

I don't know what it is with this franchise, but we always struggle with long-range shooting.

We need Gary Neal back.

Wow, that's weird...odd because Wig's eFG% (.450) is so much better than Kevin's (.397). There's no comparison as to how they are shooting from the field, but the fact that they are even at TS% shows the importance of free throw shooting. They both get to the line a lot, but Kevin is shooting 88% and Wig only 73%. Bottom line: Kevin needs to get back to his historical numbers on threes, and Wig needs to get more efficient overall.

You can't have the attitude of the young guys have to earn it and then award a starting spot to a guy who is one of if not statistically the worst rotation player on the team. You tell Martin if you want to start you have to be better before that can happen or you're basically saying fuck you to guys like Lavine and Bazz who are playing harder and better than Martin and have been told they have to earn it and haven't gotten it yet.

How is Bazz playing better than Martin? He's been just as terrible. Bazz has to play much better to deserve more minutes. While Martin has struggled scoring this year, he's had a long track record of being an efficient scorer and he's much better plus minus than Bazz. I agree they both suck so far this year and Lavine does deserve more minutes especially if its at the 2. Also, Payne and Miller have been surprisingly decent and I think they deserve to get more minutes.

I am not worried about Martin as a bench player because he was ridiculously efficient his one year he did it at OKC. If it wasn't for that Inwould worry he was one of those volume guys that would struggle with lower minutes. I am sure NBA execs like to look at that one year too.

I could see Martin in the starting lineup but I think he needs to play his way into it. That could happen 3 games from now. At this point the team is a game or so away possible from needing to make a change. Of course they could also go on a 3 game winning streak and the starting lineup stays the same for another 10 games.

Don't know if your full scenario will play out, kegeek. But you nailed the first part!

Timberwolves PR ?@Twolves_PR 5m5 minutes ago Minneapolis, MN
Sam Mitchell tells media that Kevin Martin will start tomorrow in place of Tayshaun Prince. Looking for more scoring from starters.
