CoolBreeze's 2 Things I Didn't Like Tonight Plus 1

Post by Coolbreeze44 »

Well the road streak is over, but not without a fight. The final score was about what I expected, but not the way it unfolded. Once we got down 20+ points, I thought the 4 games in 5 nights was going to swallow us up. But give the guys credit, they really dug in and made it a game at the end. We even had some legitimate chances to come all the way back, but it wasn't our night in the end. Here is the below .500 for the first time version of the 2 + 1:

1) We couldn't seem to get any calls on numerous drives to the basket in the 2nd half. It seemed like the refs really swallowed the whistles, especially as it pertained to the Wolves on offense. Hard to win with all the factors going against us tonight. Wiggins seemed to get fouled multiple times, hopefully this young star starts to get those calls.

2) As I mentioned in the game thread, I saw Wiggins laboring on that injured knee. A couple times it didn't look good. But he played the entire 2nd half, so I guess it couldn't have been too bad. Sure hope this isn't something that lingers. He really seems to be taking things up a notch these past 4-5 games.

Plus 1 - I'll give Sam credit for finding a lineup that was working and sticking with it. He didn't feel obligated to keep KMart on the floor, and I wasn't sure if we would see that. Take the lineup that was out there during the comeback, and substitute a healthy Ricky for Andre and I think we probably win. Not to say Andre wasn't a big part of the comeback, he certainly was. But he's not Ricky at this point of his career and we really miss him. But give that lineup that was out there a lot of credit, they showed a lot of heart and skill.

And that's Cool's 2 things I didn't like tonight Plus 1.

Thanks Cool, didn't get to watch. Troubling to hear about Wiggins laboring. I think we argue here too much about positions. It's great we have guys who can play multiple positions so I'm hoping Sam continues to give Zach minutes with Miller or Rubio. And when Pek comes back, Towns can play some 4. Bazz offers versatility off the bench. But like I said in the game thread and using GS as the model, we need 4 guys on the floor who can nail 3's.

Good 2+1, cool. We're under .500 for the first time this season, but somehow tonight's game brought my optimism level back up. 4th game in 5 nights (NBA hell), Rubio hurt, Martin and KG no shows, and playing a team that had won 5 of 6...and rather than folding, we outscore them 30-17 in the 4th quarter. I noticed Wig hurting too, and Zach was so out of gas after the game that he declined to speak to the media, but they still both scored 26 points each...these guys are a couple warriors, and so are other guys like Towns and Belly. I like this team.

I was pleased to see Mitchell's flexibility tonight also. Sam has a stubborn streak in him, and we don't want it to negatively affect the team. And tonight was an indication that he understands the flexibility he has in his lineup and is willing to mix and match to get to the best result. Indy is one of the smallest teams we will see all year, and Sam probably could have gone with a different starting lineup tonight. But I still credit him for figuring it out in the second half, and using some creative lineups to help us get back into the game.

3 losses in a row now with Rubio out, so as frustrated as I am with him missing 3 of the first 9 games of the year, it's still clear how much we need him. His injury last year put us into a tailspin that we never recovered from, and it's happened again the last three games. It's absolutely imperative that he toughen up and do whatever it takes to play hard against Memphis Sunday. Memphis isn't playing well this year (they're 4-6 and barely got by Portland at home tonight) and we will win that game if Ricky is on the court and effective. If not, we may be on the cusp of along season again.

Yeah, the one thing about Zach at SG is he gets 3's up in volume. We shot 20 3's last night which is similar to the amount we were putting up in the pre-season, when a lot of us were heartened to see more permissiveness from outside the arc. Zach had 7 of those 20 attempts and made 4. He shows a lot of potential as a high-volume 3-point shooter, something we really need. But it won't happen when he's playing PG.

Need some feedback guys. The 2+1 isn't getting much response. Has it run it's course? Does the format need to be adjusted? Are the topics less interesting? Want to make sure the effort is generating discussion and worth the time.

I think it's a good format. This one in particular was a very good summery IMO which is probably why there isn't much to add.

I think the problem as Wolves fans is that were stuck in some sort of time loop, twilight zone phase where we get excited before the season and the first couple of games, then get smacked in the face by the same heartbreak and slowly fade into apathy until the next season where we start the cycle over again.

Seriously this is like the what 4th straight year of the same situation?

I would miss the 2+1 if you quit writing it, cool...it's an interesting format and one of the great traditions of this board. It seems to me that it usually generates a lot of discussion. After 4 games in 5 nights, though. posters might be a little weary...hence, less discussion than usual after the Indy game!

I also would like to see more game reports from those that are able to attend games in person, both at TC and on the road...there are always some interesting insights that I didn't pick up on TV.

Add it to the game threads. People read them, but if you don't say something disagreeable there isn't much point to responding and the thread doesn't get a lot of responses. If you want to address something specifically to elaborate on then create a new thread, otherwise if they are going to be largely just recaps then we should keep that analysis in the game threads to keep the board efficient.
