CoolBreeze's 2 Things I Didn't Like Tonight Plus 1
I have so many positives tonight, it's going to be real tough to do a 2 + 1. I'll do a bullet point run down on the Plus 1. Isn't it fun to beat the Miami Heat? Few teams that I would rather beat and we did it going away. Very, very pleased with our performance tonight. So without further adieu, here is the "We're Starting to Grow Up Version" of the 2 + 1:
1) Does Bjelica have a conscience? My goodness, he couldn't be any more off on his first two three attempts but he kept on throwing 'em up. Not the best night for Belly. In fairness he's been as good as expected this year and I'm sure he will bounce back. Hopefully it happens tomorrow night.
2) I really can't think of anything else I didn't like about the Wolves tonight, so I'll pick on Miami. I grew weary of the veteran team trying to intimidate the young upstarts. Some of those guys including Whiteside talk too much. Made the victory that much sweeter. Glad we pushed back in both word and play tonight. Nice to see a lot of fight in the boys - like I said we're starting to grow up.
Plus 1
- Absolutely loved Adrian Payne tonight. I loved his energy. I loved his aggressiveness. I loved that he got in Deng's face when he tried to intimidate him. Nice job AP!!
- I think you saw tonight what a motivated guy like Andrew Wiggins can look like. Who didn't get goosebumps when he tried to dunk over Whiteside? He got fouled, but no matter, that play might have been the impetus for us making the charge to take over the game. And of course Andrew was great down the stretch. I even saw him talking to the Miami bench when he was at the line. Great to see!! Not bad for a guy who doesn't have a chance to make the hall of fame.
- I love that Zach was on the floor at crunch time, and boy did he reward Sam for it. Clutch shots, smart play, and cool character. Love what Sam did with the rotation tonight. And by the way Zach was a +23, good for best on the team. He also had 0 turnovers. Like I said in another thread, I don't care where he plays, just play him.
- KAT with a bit of slow start but ends up with 14/14 and some big plays in the 4th. He's damnear already fully grown.
- Bazz had some really good minutes. I tell you what, I'm convinced he is made to come off the bench and be instant offense. It really is the perfect role for him. It allows him to focus on what he does best. Like the announcers said he can be a rotation guy for just about anybody.
- Ricky still can't shoot, but he comes back and we win. It's not a coincidence.
- The ability for a young team to win on the road like this gives me real hope that things have to turn around at home soon. Can you tell this win has me pumped up?
And that's Cool's 2 things I didn't like tonight Plus 1.

What I really loved from Wiggins tonight was late he took it to the hoops and was pissed because they called no foul once again. What did he do, same possession he takes it right back to the hoop and gets the foul!!!
Fire baby, he had it, and I loved it!!

I'm with you cool on the goosebumps during that Wiggins missed dunk over Whiteside..that was impressive. I so much wish that would have went in for an AND ONE.
Another thought I had tonight was I wish KG was 35 instead of 39. This team is going to make some deep runs and I hope KG is there thru them.....bench or not.
A very very very nice win. I hope we can get the next 3 or 4 and start something. Lavine can play both SG and PG...looking good at both.

Cool I didn't mind Belly taking those shots because he has been hesitant to shoot and he should be shooting. Sam must have seen he just didn't have it because he kept taking Belly out for Payne and like you said Payne gave some good minutes.

Come on, cool, you're slipping! Here's the second thing you shouldn't have liked...we shot 37%, and your favorite whipping boy was a big contributor with his 2-11. Martin is now shooting 39% on the year, 27% on threes, and has had 5 rotten games in a row since he missed those games per personal reasons. Kevin has been a great shooter his entire career, so I can't help wondering if he has something on his mind related to his personal time off. If so, I will cut him some slack. But he brings us nothing if he is shooting this poorly.
I recognize that Whiteside had a lot to do with our poor shooting...what a monster! And what a dink! I've heard before what a bad guy he is, but I've never witnessed it personally. But our team is tough. At different times I saw Prince, KG and Payne all getting in his face...good for them. And it was great poetic justice that his poor free throw shooting hurt them big time.
Belly had no conscious tonight...maybe because he won Sam's shooting contest earlier in the day. But he was awful tonight. I still liked two things about it. I want Belly to put up more threes, so I liked that even though he was missing them...I mean REALLY missing them! It will play off in the long run because he's a great shooter. And I liked that Sam saw that Belly was off, and turned to Payne. JZ tweeted that Adreain has really been working overtime on his game, and it was nice to see it all play off tonight.
Here are words I didn't know that I would ever be comfortable saying...Wiggins is a WARRIOR! All that talent and now I know he has the heart to go with it. Even though Whiteside was beating up inside, he kept attacking...pure guts. This kid is really going to be something special.
Just a great night. And with Sam using his bench so effectively, only Wig played more than 28 minutes, so the impact of the BTB should be less than usual. Ricky said he was not 100% but needed to be out there for his team, so I expect both he and KG to play tomorrow in Orlando. Doper needs to battle through his bad quad and fire up another GDT...guaranteed win!

Agreed, he may have taken it too far in the other direction, but they need to take those 3's when they are available. We aren't going to compete with the big boys in the West without generating 3-point attempts.

Yeah, Martin has gotten off to an awful start offensively this season, BUT.....he was part of a second unit tonight that played some nice defense and he was working his ass off. So while he seems to be getting edged out of the rotation a bit, props to him for at least playing hard.
Wiggins was amazing in the 4th quarter. It's so frustrating to watch him early in games put up a lot of long 2's off the bounce. He rarely makes them and it's just a low percentage shot in general (unless your Steph Curry). But if that's what allows him to have enough in the tank to attack, attack, attack late in games, then so be it. We got the W.
Rubio did not look good, but he played a gritty game.
Payne! Holy crap he looked pretty damn good out there.
Just a great, great win. Miami is a hell of a team.

I think people are probably tired of my Kmart rants. Point has been made. I hope he gives us some good offense going forward.

One peculiarity about Belly is his tendency to shoot threes five feet beyond the line. Granted, he makes them sometimes, but it seems he would generally still be open if he set up at the line rather than well beyond it...and it would be a much easier shot. I would hope the coaching staff would help him correct that.
