Bad karma for McHale?
Bad karma for McHale?
I always liked Kevin, so I feel bad for him. I am not sure what is wrong in Houston, but not attending Flip's funeral was not a good sign...

And now Sam Mitchell knows if he doesn't produce this year, McHale will have his job next year.

Re: Bad karma for McHale?
As I noted at the time... we don't know the situation. Maybe he reached out personally to the family. Regardless, everybody handles death differently.
ESPECIALLY... a guy who lost a young daughter. After that happens, the death of a friend might be treated slightly differently than what we might expect. I dunno. But I do know that there is no right or wrong way to grieve. And I also know that I don't know if McHale reached out to the family in a different way or not.
So I wouldn't use "karma" in this situation or begrudge McHale for not attending the funeral.
[Note: Karma does work, however, in being fired as coach because it's easier to use the coach as scapegoat when players suck balls on the court. That's the NBA way... always.]

Good points, Abe. And as I said, I liked Kevin more than most, especially in the times he struggled in the Wolves front office...

I'm not happy about this news...he's one of us and a good guy, and this seems like a knee jerk reaction to me. Yes, Houston has been terrible in the first month of the season, but is it Kevin's fault that Harden is shooting 37% and Lawson 33%? The one who should be fired is the GM who put that roster of knuckleheads together...Harden and Howard and Lawson, oh my! McHale should be given a medal for holding it together there for as long as he did. I'm feeling very grateful to Flip right now for the superior character in the roster he gave us...especially compared to Houston.
Kevin said all the right things in the aftermath of Flip's death. Their's was obviously a complicated relationship, but not lacking in love.

So, BJ gets the interim head coach position, someone a number of us had on our list of potential head coach candidates (and someone Cam has been especially vocal about). But I don't envy the mess BJ has to work with.
So, does Glen, in Country Club fashion, bring McHale back into the fold somewhere down the line?

I would not be surprised at all.

It wasn't too long ago (like a month) that Morey and McHale were both geniuses. Ty Lawson seems to be a coach killer.
Re: Bad karma for McHale?
I just experienced a sudden unexpected death of a close friend a few days ago. It confirmed that I grieve very differently when it comes than most people. Therefore I tend to not judge others and greatly appriciate when others (especially my wife) allow me to grieve in my own way. We said it before with Flip but cancer sucks take the time to take good care of yourself. I'll be taking the time around the holidays to make those medical appointments I haven't take. The time to do for way to long.
Having said that I think it may be clear why McHale didn't go to the funeral. He had more immediate issues at hand. If anyone would understand that it would be Flip's family and now McHale can take some time to grieve and reach out to the family in a way he may have not been able to do before.
Wouldn't it be nifty karma if McHale came back to the Wolves in some capacity and was part of a team that ended up winning a championship and Houston never did?

It's the curse of Dwight coward, and yep this is on Morey.
