I know we're only 5 games in; but our 4th quarter defense is something remarkable compared to last season. The additions of KAT, KG, Prince, and (hopefully full season) Ricky can give us reasonable hope for continued success.
From Allan Horton:
4th Qtr & OT defense compared to last year.
'15/'16: 27% FG 16% 3ptrs
'14/'15: 47% FG 35% 3ptrs
Going forward where do you think we'll level off at?

Re: 4th Quarter defense
Well, it won't be 27% and 16%, that's for sure. The defense is likely going to get worse, not better. I hate to say that, but those numbers aren't sustainable. The good news is that it is CLEARLY a lot better than last season and it appears that we will take a gigantic step forward. But staying top 5 the rest of the year? Don't think so....
Re: 4th Quarter defense
I thought our defensive bubble might burst against Chicago. But it didn't. We have Atlanta and Golden State in 2 of the next 3 games. The bubble is bound to expand. But will it burst?
Re: 4th Quarter defense
It may not be sustainable but I having Ricky on the front line of the defense and Towns as a backstop puts the team in a good spot to start with.

Yeah, Golden State is just playing ridiculous ball right now and Steph Curry is raining 3's and making all sorts of circus shots without even breaking a sweat.
Here is my proposal with Golden State: You know how Pop rests his key guys against the weaker of the two opponents in back-to-backs? I think we should use the same tactic but in reverse - sit some of our key guys against Golden State, a team we have no hope of beating. KG, Rubio, Wiggins, and Towns. Just screw it and live another day. Those guys are unbeatable right now.

Some credit has to go towards Sam and the coaching staff so far on the defensive end. Does that work they have done hold up over time? Let's hope so. I am not sure Sam and this staff are defensive geniuses but if they focus on that significantly they aren't stupid when it comes to basketball they should be able to make a solid difference on that end and have so far.
