Britt Robson Q&A with Ricky Rubio

Post by Q12543 [enjin:6621299] »

Go https://www.minnpost.com/sports/2015/11/i-am-dying-win-qa-timberwolves-ricky-rubiohere for the article.

Ricky is my favorite player on the Wolves. I think he's a basketball genius that has a hard time expressing himself due to a combination of English as his second language and the fact that it's hard to express the un-expressable.

Injuries suck.

Great article, it pulled me back from the ledge! Call me naive, but I'm only one quarter Porkchop now! Or to put it another way, it's only 45 minutes to midnight on the Porkchop clock!

Hmm...I sense that the interview made Robson a little sad, and it had the same impact on me. It's sad to hear a 25-year-old talk wistfully about when he was young. Damn Kobe...how great Rubio could have been if Bryant hadn't started him down the injury path.

I thought once you bit off a chunk of porkchop you couldn't go back. Is it possible you were really eating ham and haven't had any porkchop yet?

It is possible to go back so long as you don't go FULL Porkchop! Thankfully I was healed while being around 99.9% Porkchop!

What stood out to me the most was the term chronic. I don't know how serious Britt was in using that term but it's not one anyone wants to hear. I also think that it gives some great insight into what exactly Ricky was dealing with as far as the ankle. Im not an ankleologist or an anklyosaurus but I don't know that garden variety ankle sprains become chronic issues. Luckily I think Ricky's game can survive this, especially with some strengthening. I believe his best days are still ahead of him.

I am not expert either but I will share my experience.

I had some issues turning my ankles for around 10 years maybe more. I never had surgery or anything like that but I some bad ones with tons of bruising I am sure now that I know more I probably tore some stuff at least some. At one point it was becoming more of a problem every couple months I would tweek it a bit again. I realized one problem was one pair of shoes I had didn't help so I got rid of them which helped. I had bought some big ankle braces but they were uncomfortable.

What changed everything is a someone I volunteered with had really bad ankles told me medical professionals told her to stand on one foot and balance as long as possible. It would strengthen and tighten everything over time. Anything else either an excercise or stretching would loosen things up and continue the problem. So here and there I started doing that standing on one foot when ever I remembered. I got better and a couple years ago I used to challenge myself to stand on one foot and play tug of war with my client's black lab. I think in the past 3 years maybe even much longer than that I tweaked my ankle maybe once but it wasn't bad at all. I still have some random pain that's probably related to all the previous sprains I had but I have basically had no problems with them and that's pretty big especially since I am not getting younger. Lol I wear low top shoes also which have always felt better to me. I fully believe that not only does that basic excercise tighten and strengthen the ankles but it helps you have more balance so when you are on the ankle you keep from tweeking it as much. Lately I have been doing the yoga move that the guy that worked with Curry on his ankles and entire body suggested when he first met Curry. Too bad he didn't work as many wonders with Pek. Lol

Hopefully Arnie can help Rubio and maybe part of it is holding him back from pushing too hard. At least with Kander and all the other staff Flip hired I feel like if guys can't stay healthy it's not because we didn't have a legit medical staff.

Thats encouraging to read. Thanks monster. I feel fortunate that I have only sprained my ankle once even though I landed on many others feet. I played ball at the park or school gym or on a team nearly every day from age 11 to 19 and missed roughly 5 days from the ankle. I guess I am a light treader.

All I have ever played was pickup ball, school intramurals (both as a student and as a staff member) or city league. Honestly I have always been a pretty quick healer and able to play through most anything. The only thing I couldn't play through was back spasms which would probably not be an issue if I did more stretching or did some yoga and I have done a little. Ore of that lately. I have been very very fortunate when it comes to injuries I've never had anything really that serious although I have had a couple concussions. I will say that don't heal as well now in my late 30's though. lol
