Rubio Plays Squash (the trade rumors)

Post by GymRat [enjin:6592663] »

Pretty good interview with Rubio. Squashes trade rumors as best he can and talks about his rehab and a few thoughts on flip, Lavine, and the draft.

I'm with him 100%. It's time to let this young group of players grow together. No need to trade anybody--lets see what we have and hope the injury bug moves on to another franchise. Maybe finally winning the lottery is a sign that the bad luck is over.

Agreed. No trades this year of anyone under 25. Need to keep this group together for a few years, boom or bust.

Interesting AB points It makes me think Lip is actually Rubio.

About some other young players... Anthony Bennett. Everybody is talking about how you are going to put the last three #1 picks together, but Bennett has never produced like a #1.

He has never had self-confidence. He didn't start well in Cleveland and he arrived at Minnesota as a clean sheet. The injuries have restrained him. The fact that another #1, also a Canadian, was alongside him on the team hasn't helped either. Too much pressure. We are talking about players that are 20 or 21-years-old. The pressure has affected him, but we hope this summer he can evolve.

Do you think that he can be an important player? It seems that when he enters the court shows a lot of energy, but two or three minutes later he crumbles.

Yes. He must work on his confidence. He has the physical tools, the talent, he must believe it. This last summer he worked with a very good personal training, focusing on change. It helped him at the beginning of the season, but then the injuries came and the lack of results made him a little nervous. He is 20 and everything affected him.

Disheartening to hear he won't be touching a basketball until end of July. So much for improving his shot.

Until July I cannot withstand any impact, due to the cartilage, to avoid damage, and until the end of July I'm not going to touch the basketball again.

That was a very good interview and some interestig points.

I liked how he talked about leadership he seems to be feeling more comfortable becoming a leader and I think that's key for him going forward. You have to love his response about his shooting and stats how it's all about wins.

His thoughts on AB just needing confidence maybe give you a little bit of hope for the guy if he can get his mind straight.

Overall Rubio is so likeable and is a smart basketball mind.

Other than may be one or two of the current greats - Chris Paul comes to mind - I can't think of a better point guard in today's NBA to help shepherd along these young guys. His pass-first attitude, age (not too old, not too young), and competitive fire are exactly what this team needs. He can be the maestro that conducts the orchestra as these guys mature.

Now he just has to get healthy and stay that way!

Am I the only one concerned about his reference to the cartilage. Did he have a MF surgery that we weren't told about? I don't know of any ankle issue other than an Achilles that would require that kind of time frame.

It could be a translation issue also.
