Yep, Freddy going to the Bulls, Orlando grabbing Skiles. Flip says he's got this under control and we don't need a new coach, things will be different next year!

Re: Hey, 2nd ain't bad
Although Freddy to Chicago has been rumored for months, I still find this news painful. Some argued on this forum that the Mayor would never leave Ames, but I never bought into that...the money is so much better in the pros, and the lifestyle without having to worry about recruiting is much more palatable to a family guy like Freddy. I knew he was headed for the NBA sooner than later, and I thought he was our best option...a young, successful, dynamic college coach with big ties to the Twin Cities. Maybe Glen made a run at him, and Fred thought Chicago was a better option...I don't know. My guess is, though, that Chicago went after much harder than we did (assuming we did at all), and he felt more love there. If my hunch is true, I am very disappointed.
I don't think Chicago should have fired Thibs in the first place, but landing Hoiberg is a good move for them.

We have Flip Saunders as head coach. Who needs anyone else? Right? Right?

I'm a big Fred Hoiberg guy myself, but just to assume the role of Devil's Advocate, it's pretty crazy how everyone has just assumed that he is going to be a star coach in this league with zero experience. I know the Brad Stevens thing has worked out really well, but his short-term success has really painted the college-to-pro thing with a wide brush lately.
Re: Hey, 2nd ain't bad
Hoiberg was the only guy I can think of that flip will hire to replace himself.
I just cant see flip hiring someone without minnesota connection to replace himself. Joerger and fred are committed elsewhere long term. There seems to be mutual disinterest between thibs and us. Its looking more and more like flip coaching for the next 2-4 years.

I'm intrigued by the idea of Cassell and Billups, and even Saunders Jr. (in several years), but I'll be furious if Mitchell is the guy.
