2015 free agency
I'm making the assumption that we'll be drafting a big if we land a top 2 pick, and Flip's openly said he wants to add 3 point shooting this offseason. With ditching Thad Young and KGs contract (I fully expect KG will re-sign at a reduced price and kept on Bird rights whatever the price ends up being), is this the year we finally get my guy Wesley Matthews?
Since we don't have a FA thread yet, I'm curious who's on everyone else's (realistic) wish list?

Nemanja Bjelica. That's probably it as far as "big" moves.

We won't be able to afford anyone close to a Wes Matthews caliber player. MLE only, unless we do a sign and trade for someone which I don't think will happen.
Here is my list of affordable free agents. Backup PG should be the priority unless we move up and grab a potential competent backup. Jameer Nelson would be the best.
PG - Aaron Brooks/ Jameer Nelson (he has a player option for 2.8 mil if he wants to opt in)/ Isiah Canaan
SG - Alan Anderson/ Mike Dunleavy Jr./ Gary Neal/ K.J. McDaniels
SF - We have enough SF's but I still love Mbah a Moute
PF - Ed Davis probably priced himself out of our range but throw the full MLE at him. We should have signed him last year.
C - If Roy Hibbert is ousted from the Pacers and no one else wants to give him any money give him the full MLE and hope that KG "magic" wears off on him

I actually took this one as more of an internal signing rather than free agency signee, but I agree that this is probably the year we bring him over.

I think we can have enough cap room clear to sign Matthews if he hits FA. Remember, he's coming off an injury, which doused his value on the open market on what otherwise would have been a big payday.
I'll admit, none of those names excite me except for the possibility of Hibbert (the PGs are fine, but it depends on what we plan on doing with LaVine's position). And What do you like abouT Mbah? He was atrocious when he was with the Wolves.

Right, but Bjelica is like a free agent in that he won't come on slotted into a rookie contract. We're talking around 3 years at $5M. I'm not sure what else we can afford. I could potentially see a Martin or Budinger trade for a capable backup PG, but I get the sense Flip still thinks LaVine can play this role.

2015-16 salary cap projection - $66,300,000
Wolves salary holdings 2015-16 - $56,678,076
Add in the cap hold for KG and 1st round pick and we will be near the cap (not to mention Bejlica, Hummel, second round pick, etc.)
No room to sign Wes Matthews.
None of the names are exciting because that is what our cap room dictates. Hopefully we find a solid bench role-playing vet. Roy Hibbert is a stretch but it is not out of the realm of possibility (almost though)
As for Moute. I've been a big fan of the guy since he has been with the Bucks. He plays outstanding defense and he knows his role, he won't jack up threes or try and force his offense. You can put him in with a second unit and he can hold down whoever is hot, he can guard 2-4 although he is challenged against quicker players.
His stint with the Wolves was marred by the fact that he was forced to be an offensive player and he had JJ running the point with Shved as his two guard. Put him in with a vet PG, Shabazz or Lavine playing next to him and Gorgui playing Center and watch how much more efficient our second unit would become.
I'm a Moute fanboy, we are rare, we are proud, and we will sing the praises of a defensive savant who knows his damn role.

Re: 2015 free agency
Heh, Volans' unrequited love for Mbah Moute almost matches my love for Jeff Adrien!
I actually agree with everything Volans says, however, the non-shooting defensive wing savant is a dying breed. Aminu, Mbah Moute, Tony Allen....There are a few out there but their inability to hit the open 3 makes things more difficult on their teams' offense on the other end. The ability to play D and then hit that catch-and-shoot corner 3 is such a great combination of skills.

Mike dunleavy jr is a good option for us. He could be paired with any of our wings and be a good fit. Good job by volans for bringing him up. Not sure he would look to sign with us though but he would be the vet/outside threat/secondary ball handler that would fit well with the team.
I also think a backup pg is a must to add this off season.

Do you guys think Kawhi Leonard would be a good fit?
All kidding aside, I wouldn't go crazy on free agents.
