Adrian Payne is available and we are shopping him. Unbelievable.

This will go down as flip's worst trade. We gave up a first for the guy. That 1st would have been useful right now to package with martin for a legit rotation guy. Now, the market for martin is a 2nd round pick and payne is as well. We wasted an asset.

Yep wasn't Flips finest move, but I think Tom Izzo talked him up.

My question is why try to move him? He's dirt cheap and can play 4 or 5 if we really need a body. 3 guys have to be inactive every night. Unless he nets a significant upgrade over Dieng I don't see a point in trying to move him for another guy who would need minutes. And for the love of God don't dump him for a worse pick than we gave away to get him.

I wished Anthony Bennett gone. Could I really get my second wish to come true?

Actually, I've been OKAY with Payne's minutes this year. He just has no clue how to embrace his role as an energetic, defense and rebound first type big. He wants to do too much on offense and that makes me not really like him.

The two ugliest things in basketball are Payne post-ups and Payne pump-fake-dribble-drives. Both are train wrecks waiting to happen....and injuries to whoever gets in his way, friend or foe!

I'm not opposed to trading him, but what possibly could we get in return? No one is going to give up anything for him. Of all the players on our roster that could be involved in a trade rumor, Payne is not one that comes to mind.

Only thing I can gather is they feel his is a problem worth not having.

That's the only explanation, because he's so cheap with that rookie deal.

Is it a "We gotta get this guy away from Wiggins, Towns, LaVine...?"

I haven't heard anything, but that's one of the things about basketball that I love... all the behind-the-scenes stuff that not only transcend all the analytics, sometimes they help define the actual result on the court.

I don't know, if you look at Payne's backstory, it's pretty incredible:

- No Dad in his life
- His Mom died in his arms when he was a 13-year old kid.
- Diagnosed with a cognitive disability at a very young age and was relentlessly teased by classmates; was enrolled in the "special ed" courses.
- Eventually worked hard enough to get grades good enough to be eligible for D-1.
- Then you have the whole Lacey Holsworth story which most folks here are familiar with.

I'm not saying there doesn't exist some behind-the-scenes issues with him, but I can't believe given his stature on the team (very minimal) that any "issues" he might be having would somehow poison the rest of the locker room.

Good points. Then why get rid of him?

I know he's not helping the team win games. But is what they get in return (can't be much) going to be better for the team?
