KG Effect on Wolves coaching situation
I have been an unabashed supporter of the KG trade...last night's win over Portland reinforced my belief (and looking at the other side of the trade, Thad has moved into the starting line up for the Nets, and they are getting destroyed on the boards in tonight's game). But I just finished reading a thread on rubechat that has me wondering whether KG's presence will have a impact on who will be coaching the Wolves. I'm not totally against Flip continuing to coach this team, but Q's comments about Flip's antiquated offense have me wondering if he is the right guy to coach this group of young, talented players PBO Flip has assembled. The difference in offensive philosophies was on display last night, and the Wolves were fortunate to prevail anyway. I'm beginning to wonder if a more modern coach who embraces the 3-pointer, lay ups and free throw philosophy might be what we need to take these studs to the next level.
Maybe Flip and Glen have been thinking the same thing. Maybe Flip sold himself to Glen as a stopgap until someone like a Hoiberg became available. We don't know. But if that is the case, does the close relationship between Flip and KG combined with the likelihood that KG plays a couple more years mean that Flip will be coaching this team as long as KG is playing? Was that maybe even a pledge made before KG would agree to the deal? I still think Hoiberg could be an excellent coach for this team, and there are rumors circulating that the Bulls are going to go after him hard in the offseason. If the KG/Flip relationship ended up costing us a shot at the Mayor, I would consider that a bad thing.
Or maybe I should just stay away from Rubechat!

If you haven't figured out by now that Sam Mitchell is going to be the next coach then I can't help you

This is my thinking as well.
But if Chicago dumps Thibs, would he be a possiblity? If I have my years right, KG won his championship with Thibs master-minding the defense in Boston, which was a pretty damn good defense.

I'm not so sure about Sam being a shoo-in. Flip could have put him in this year if he wanted him there.

Good call Phenom on the Thibs-KG connection. I've always thought head coaches have as much influence on a defense as raw talent. If anyone can get this team turned around defensively, it's him. Interesting thought.

Wonder if Thibs would want more control after butting heads a lot in Chicago. That being said if we look to hire a new coach I see us being one of the best jobs out there. With Wiggins and another high lottery pick to build with.
