Rose, Hill, or Penny

Post by TRKO [enjin:12664595] »

It looks like we will never really get to see the greatness of Derrick Rose play out, much like Grant Hill and Penny Hardaway. Which of the three do you feel would have had the better career if not for injuries, which one was your favorite?

Grant Hill may be a better comparison for Wiggins than Pippen now that I think about it.

At differing times during their careers, all were considered at the very top of the league. But if I could just pick one, I would have to say Grant Hill due to his two-way play. Great on both ends of the court and a superior athlete.

Grant Hill for me too. I think it is as much about him as a person as his ability.

I think the Penny and Shaq combo would have been very run to watch. I am sure Magic fans think of that like we think of KG and Marbury.

Grant Hill was LeBron James before LeBron James, if that makes sense. The NBA community was robbed of a once-in-a-generation talent when it comes to him. He could do it all. It's sad thinking about it.

We could throw Brandon Roy's name into this talk too. He was an elite SG in the league when there was already Kobe and Wade. He held his own with those two no doubt about it.

PS: I've always thought Derrick Rose was overrated, though still a very good player. Didn't deserve his MVP, in my opinion, either. Take that for whatever it's work. It was LeBron's trophy. Media just got sick of giving it to the same guy over and over.

Hardaway for me. He would have rivaled Kobe if he could have stayed healthy. He could do it all offensively.

Its hard to argue against grant hill as there would have been talks of him being among the top 10 players ever had he stayed healthy. He averaged 20/9/4 in two of his early healthy seasons.

I always liked rose as a player and he rivals hill for me. MVP, deserving or not, at age 21/22 is impressive. He was just touching his potential. His shot still wasn't where it could have been. I saw him reaching 30/5/10 on that bulls team, as he already hit 26/5/8 at age 22. Sky was the limit for him.

Very good call on Roy. He should have been included.

I was a huge fan of Penny and Shaq back in the day. If Shaq hadn't of bolted and Penny wouldn't have gotten hurt, they could have had a dynasty after Michael retired. That Magic team was young and fun to watch. I'm hoping we can build a young team with Wiggins and set ourselves up for a run.

I think it is difficult to compare Grant Hill to others since he was able to play much longer without any major injuries. He played 6 full season before injuring his ankle. He was already 28 at the time of injury, so most probably he had already reached his full potential. Roy, Rose and Penny were injured at much younger age, so it is difficult to say whether they would have been able to reach Hill's level later on.

Grant Hill was also only one that could make real comeback later.(hopefully Rose can still do the same) He even got one selection for all star game at the age of 32. His scoring stats at that year were quite comparable to his early seasons but other stats were quite mediocre.

I think Penny had maybe highest potential out of that group but I also think Shaq made his life much easier in his first three seasons.
