Flip truly is a genius
What an incredible master plan he's executing as we speak. The moment Rubio went down with that nasty ankle injury he sprung into action knowing there is no way we are making the playoffs this year by placing Lavine at PG for all of his minutes, allowing him to develop along with Wiggins while still piling up the losses. Knowing he possesses the future dynamic wing duo of this generation he couldn't afford to play Zach at SG right away with Wiggins starting because they would figure it out too fast and it would lead to too many wins.
Rubio comes back and Flip makes the trade for KG, firmly entrenched in winning now mode, and for a few games you see an inspired group. But then Rubio has some soreness.......master flip has to make another bold move. Taking out all of our veterans with "nagging" injuries. Allow the tank to finish and grab one of the elite big prospects to pair with the Wings of the future. Now by only playing 8 players Flip can move Lavine to SG where he is rapidly improving but our lack of depth usually finishes us off at the end of the game unless Wiggins and/or Lavine take over like the last game. They will get to develop together at their natural positions now and get acclimated just in time for next year when Rubio is healthy, Garnett is in the best shape of his life while working out intensely because he and Flip made a decision not to waste any of KG's fleeting minutes on this lost season and just sit him out with knee soreness this year. A new big prospect to top it off and now the Wolves have went from a dark dark future with Kevin Love leaving and us having nothing to having the ammo to compete in the West....and did this all over the course of a single year.

I'm hoping this was written with humor and not seriousness.

Not to take this thread in a different direction, but the whole Love to Cleveland thing is looking even better for us now that Love is helping create a rift in Cleveland, along with underproducing. At this point, Flip may have gotten Andrew Wiggins for a 1 year rental of a high caliber role player who sits at the end of games.
Can't totally credit Flip for the trade though...right now it looks like he could almost not have gone wrong with any of the deals... First there's Wiggins which is a great get, then there's the almost trade in Klay Thompson, and then there was the other potential offer with legs which included Mirotic and Taj (wonder if we could have somehow pry'd Jimmy Butler from them with Mirotic instead).
On the Flip side (pun intended), he also traded a likely mid-1st for Payne who just seems awkward out there and is already in his mid-20's. Not loving that move so far.
With all that said, this will be a very important draft for the Wolves future, so hopefully Flip gets the right guy (i.e. not the Derrick Williams of this draft)

So Cleveland is the number 2 seed and they still haven't figured it out yet. The whole league should be praying they don't fully figure it out or it will be game over. The trade is still a win-win and if they win a title this year I don't see how they don't get the automatic win for the trade. The only way the trade even becomes a win for us in that situation is multiple titles which is nice to think about but very difficult to do.

You' re also forgetting how he is subtly making the coaching job more attractive for potential candidates next year. Of course the talent is there to work with, but the expectations have also been very carefully crafted.
It's almost impossible for a new coach to come in and not exceed his years win total given we're coming off such a low base. If we'd won 35 games this year on the back of Pek, Bud and Martin, and then a new coach next year delivered 35 wins on the back of Wiggins, Lavine and out mid first round draft pick, would we really appreciate the progress? And by running his Long 2s offence all year almost any new offence that is introduced will apear innovative in comparison.
This isn't an accident, but a very well thought out and perfectly executed master plan. The master plan obviously ends in multiple championships over the next decade, so I look forward to the continued execution of the plan.

I don't see how our coaching gig is more attractive then the others that might be available
