Would you?

Post by mrhockey89 »

Let's say you're Flip Saunders and you just won the NBA lottery (okay, I know, that's not realistic, but let's just say for instance)..

Ring ring... Phil Jackson calls, whose team just dropped all the way to #4. Phil, going for it all in free agency and the draft, offers you #4 overall + top 3 protected 2017 pick. You tell Phil that's an interesting offer and will call him back.

Later that same day, you get another call, this time from the 76ers. 76ers, who just landed the #3 pick really wants Mudiay so they offer you Embiid for #1 straight up to re-pair Andrew Wiggins with his old college teammate. At #1 they take Mudiay, at #3 they take Towns.

After some deep thoughts (by Jack Handy), you come to the decision...This is what you decide:

You definitely don't take the 76ers deal. You think about the Knicks deal but decline that also.

Why do you 'definitely' not do the 76ers deal? Is it because you don't think Embiid will stay healthy?

The Sixers offer sucks, in my opinion. Keep in mind I'm not an Embiid fan at all.

The Knicks offer is intriguing, BUT I would need to know who was available at 4.

In both cases, I probably just tell them, "thanks, but no thanks" and draft Towns.

If the 76ers are willing to trade Embiid at this point, that should tell you all you need to know.

You give the 76ers the bird unless you get embiid and #3 or #6 if they get LAs pick.

Embiid is a question mark with health issues, you don't trade #1 for that.

I take the Knicks deal. We're likely to get Russell or towns there.

Give me Embiid provided he can pass an extensive physical. I think he is in a different class than Okafor and Towns.

If he is in a different class, don't you think the 76ers would know that?

I definitely take Embiid if a 3rd party set of doctors say he's good to go for next year. I also would take the Knicks deal since I see five top level players in this draft and we are a little light on future first round picks. That is probably a top 10 pick next year.

How about this? You take the Knicks deal and flip 4 for Embiid or Noel. Then we still get a top level big and pick up a top 10 pick next year. Noel has really turned into a great defender so I consider him a good get for the #4 pick and I've always thought Embiid would be great if he could stay healthy.

Who knows what they think. They like trading players for picks.
