Re: Grantland Article on the Love for Wiggins Trade
"Think about it this way: What do other teams want the Cavs to do? Teams could take their chances the next few years against LeBron and Kyrie with a bunch of young guys and broken-down veterans trying to fill in the gaps around them. Or they could spend the next five years facing a new superteam with Love, LeBron, and Kyrie, three superstars smack in the middle of their primes, with less pressure on the young guys and a new cast of veterans signing on every summer. I'm sure it's tough for Cleveland fans to watch Vines like this and imagine that player somewhere else, but come on. Don't overthink this. The biggest reason the Cavs should trade Wiggins for Love is because every team in the league is quietly praying they're crazy enough not to." -- Andrew Sharp
Bingo.
Bingo.

I don't like Bill Simmons...never have. I don't mind it when any of you guys, who I know like this team, come up with criticisms...even if I don't agree. But when Simmons does it, it always pisses me off. That said, he makes two points in his article that the two guys on this board who have given the most money to the Wolves over the years (Lipoli and me) have also made:
1) Flip doesn't really want to trade Love. I don't believe this, but Lip has postulated this for awhile. And now Simmons is saying the same thing.
2) The Cavs don't want to trade Wiggins, and they are right: Most on this board don't agree with this take, but I have been saying it from the start, and I still believe it.
If Simmons is right about both points, it's bad news for the Wolves.

I can't recall the last TImberwolves nugget from Simmons where he ripped them less than in that column.
God bless Dan Gilbert for being even lousier.

1, I think it's more the point where Flip isn't dumb enough to think he can sell Bennett/Waiters or Lee/Barnes to the fanbase. The Blazers idea is a better gamble then both of those deals
2. I think most GMs looks at the Wolves and Flip and looks down on them. They figure that they will cave eventually because their history shows exactly that. Flip's gotta set a better perception for the Wolves going foward

I don't hate Simmons for that. He is making a good point from Cleveland's perspective. Wiggins truly does have the potential to be an amazing 2 way player, that is why we want him. We would do a Wiggins + whatever for Love deal now because it is a good deal for us. But everyone is trying to get the upper hand. Being in a hurry to put a big 3 together is not necessarily Cleveland's best move at this point. I think everyone will wait it out.

Good read, I don't agree with all of it, but solid points. The risk the Cavs take with Simmons approach though is that 1) Wiggins is exposed as over hyped early in the season, and 2) another team makes an offer Flip can't refuse.

We need someone to play Cuban and force the issue. I hope it is the Celtics. I really don't want anything the Warriors are selling.

I don't hate Simmons for what he wrote, doper...he's probably right. I just hate Simmons in general. I feel about the wolves the way I felt about my younger brother when I was a kid. I could pick on him anytime I wanted to, but if someone else did, they were in for trouble from me. Simmons picks on my younger brother too much, and I always feel like beating him up.

I know what you are saying. But I do think he is like some of the other media players who just want us to be horrible and pick on us because Minnesota sucks or something like that. His criticisms really seem to be more just on basketball moves. I think he makes good points about what a difficult situation we are in especially since we have been through 2 GMs who ran us into the ground since KG left. I am more optimistic about Flip but we have to look at our franchise as a whole. We have been the laughingstock of the league for a reason. To use your analogy: unfortunately our little brother is a loser who we have been enabling and maybe we need to practice some tough love and let him experience some bumps.
