I feel like Jeff Van Gundy will be hired as our coach in a year
it just seems right, let Flip coach one more year and our coaching opening will be the most attractive in the NBA

Would love this.

And that's exactly what Flip hinted at Friday on Kfan. most guys on his list are unavailable or feel the team isn't ready yet. They want to take over a team they are confident can start winning within their first 2 years coaching.

I wouldn't read much into JVG hanging out with Flip today at practice and going to a Twins game with him but it's a bit interesting. What I like about Flip is he is obviously well connected and seems to ask and get feedback from a lot of basketball people.

I guess I would cross everyone off the list who feel the team is not ready yet. Why would we want a coach that doesn't have the ability to "coach" a team. If anyone doesn't feel this team can start winning within the next two years, they have zero confidence in their own abilities, and furthermore shouldn't be involved in any personnel decisions.
This current roster is one good defensive system away from making the playoffs, imo.

Isn't Van Gundy near the point (like his brother) where being only the coach isn't enough? With the Wolves, it's clear this is Saunders' organization. He's not going to relinquish coaching duties AND any of his GM tasks to a new guy... not even a marquee name.

You bring up a good point. I think JVG from his comments isn't interested in running an entire franchise but I do think he isn't going to want to coach for some whimsical organization and a GM that he doesn't respect. Would he and Flip work together? Idk they both have egos and JVG is pretty quirky.

Thibs is on the market right now!!!! How in the world do people not want him over JVG? Has he even coached in the past decade?Don't we hate Flip for being too old school, isn't JVG the exact same?

I dunno. Some older coaches are very good at adapting to NBA changes. Some are not as good.
Van Gundy is "only" 53. I thought he was older than that. Must be a hair thing...
I think Van Gundy has been on the sidelines... and off... it enough that he would be a guy more willing to adapt. But who knows...
