Sam Thompson

Post by TeamRicky [enjin:6648771] »

Looking at our summer league roster, I only found one undrafted free agent who was listed in this year's draft's top 100. Sam Thompson from Ohio State was ranked 81st in Draft Express. Here's a link to his profile: http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Sam-Thompson-6259/ He has great leaping ability, lateral quickness and a good defensive game. He lacks much of an offensive game. Seems like someone who I would like to put on our D-League roster if we had one. I found it curious that I saw a news blurb of him signing on with the Sixer's summer league team. If a player signs on for the summer league is he the team's property or is he still a free agent? Also, can a player sign with more than one team in summer league as I know there are three leagues with different time schedules?

Guys can play with more than one SL team. Josh Morgan is on our squad and he is playing with a team in Orlando. SL contracts are not binding at all.

Thanks. I guess that means that we would be free to sign other team's summer league guys like Robert Upshaw, Christian Wood or Cliff Alexander.

Some of those guys are probably gonna stick where they are because the team that signed them has roater spots open. Upshaw I would think is still in a good place withy he Lakers even with adding Hibbert etc.

Ok Let's get back to Sam. He is/was a guy that never seemed to be able to improve or become consistent as an offensive player. It always seemed like he was about to break out shooting the ball or do something more positive but he never really did. What I remember of him is he is solid fairly smart and very athletic. He is a classic overseas guy but if he can really defend and/or improve something on the offensive side to a more decent level (dribbling or some kind of shooting) he may have a shot as a role player. I like him on the SL team maybe Othyus Jeffers can mentor him a bit.
